- Applicants must hold a first-cycle degree in one of the following fields under the Italian system: L-34 Geological Sciences, L-32 Earth Sciences, or L-7 Civil and Environmental Engineering, or hold a suitable foreign qualification recognised by the committee as corresponding to the Italian qualification. Applicants with a first-cycle degree in a different scientific field can still meet the curricular requirement if they have obtained at least 30 CFU/ECTS in subjects related to geological sciences. Applicants who have not yet graduated may apply and pre-enrol, but they must complete the degree by 2026-12-31.

- English at CEFR B2 is required for admission. The official Unibo admissions page for the programme lists accepted proofs including Cambridge FCE or CAE at B2 level, Trinity ISE 2, IELTS at least 5.5, TOEFL iBT at least 72, PTE Academic at least GSE 50, Pearson English International Certificate B2, Oxford Test of English B2, LanguageCert International ESOL B2, Gatehouse Award Classic B2, and British Council Aptis ESOL General or Advanced at B2. The requirement can also be met with a first- or second-cycle degree fully taught in English, a transcript showing a clearly labelled CEFR B2 English exam, native-speaker status, or by passing the University of Bologna CLA online Oxford English proficiency test. The published CLA test sessions are 2026-03-19/20, 2026-04-16/17, 2026-05-07/08, 2026-06-24/25/26, and 2026-07-16/17, each with specific sign-up deadlines. The page also states that for non-EU-country applicants, basic knowledge of Italian is required; international students with no previous Italian are required to attend an online Italian course and pass the related test before graduation.
- Sınav / Test
- Applicants whose first-cycle degree is deemed equivalent to Italian class L-34 Geological Sciences automatically meet the personal-preparation requirement. All other candidates must sit an interview. The interview assesses basic knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, physics, and geology, with particular focus on scientific background, Earth Sciences, and methods and practices for outdoor, laboratory, and field geological analysis. If required, the interview is communicated by email after the application deadline and can be taken in person or remotely through Microsoft Teams. Candidates who do not pass the interview are not admitted and cannot participate in subsequent intakes of the same academic year.
