Applicants need a bachelor's degree, three-year university diploma, or suitable foreign qualification. For both curricula, eligible degree classes include L-2/1 Biotechnology, L-13/12 Biological Sciences, L-38/40 Animal Science and Technologies for Animal Production, and LM-42/47-S Veterinary Medicine. Applicants from other degree classes are also eligible if they have at least 24 CFU in Area 05 Biological Sciences, at least 8 CFU in Area 06 Medical Sciences and Area 07 Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, and at least 8 CFU in Area 01 Mathematics and Informatics, Area 02 Physics, Area 03 Chemical Sciences, and Area 13 Economics and Statistics. Foreign qualifications are assessed for equivalence. Applicants may apply before graduating but must obtain the degree by 31 Aralık 2026.
A.Y. 2026/27. Comparative Biotechnologies curriculum (taught in English): the 2026/27 admission notice sets no English certificate requirement for admission (its requirements are the qualification, the curricular requirements and the personal-preparation check), and the enrolment page states that no certification is needed at enrolment; English at B2 level must be achieved during the programme as part of the study plan. When an oral interview is required it is held in English. Conflicting official page: the curriculum's separate 'English language requirement for admission' page still says applicants must demonstrate at least CEFR B2 (recognised certificate uploaded in Studenti Online, the University of Bologna Oxford Online Placement Test at B2 with sessions from March to July 2026, or a high-school or Bachelor's degree taught in English) . Italian-taught curriculum: no English certificate at enrolment (B2 English to be passed during the programme); the oral interview is in Italian, and non-EU applicants residing abroad must meet the Italian language requirement by 19 November 2026.
A.Y. 2026/27: no written entrance test; admission depends on a personal-preparation check that may require an online oral interview (Microsoft Teams). Comparative Biotechnologies curriculum (English): the check is passed without interview by graduates with a final degree grade of at least 100/110 (or foreign equivalent) and by graduating students with an average exam grade of at least 26/30 (or foreign equivalent); all others - graduates of other degree classes who meet the credit requirements and applicants below these thresholds - take an oral interview in English of three multiple-choice questions on university-level Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Histology and basic laboratory skills (syllabus annexed to the notice), scored out of 30 (10 points per question), pass mark 18/30; interview dates 11 June, 20 July and 16 September 2026. Italian-taught curriculum: same thresholds (100/110; 26/30) and an oral interview in Italian on Biochemistry, Cytology, Biology, Cell Physiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Histology and basic laboratory knowledge, pass mark 18/30 (7 April, 11 June and 20 July 2026). Applicants who fail or miss the interview may apply in a later intake.
Front and back copy of a valid identity document (in English for the Comparative Biotechnologies curriculum, in Italian or English for the Italian-taught curriculum); a copy of the passport if the identity document has no English translation.
Qualification for admission: University of Bologna graduates or graduating students select the self-certification proposed by Studenti Online; graduates of another Italian university upload a signed self-certification of the degree with the list of exams taken (graduating students: signed self-certification of the exams taken with arithmetic mean).
Qualification obtained abroad: copy of the qualification, translated into Italian or English, giving access to second-cycle programmes in the issuing country, with transcript of records and Diploma Supplement where available; if not yet obtained, the list of exams taken (transcript of records).
Details of the course units passed, entered in the application (graduates of other Italian universities or of foreign universities).
Optional: copy of a valid residence permit, if already held; adaptation request form with supporting certification for applicants with disabilities or SLD.
After admission: holders of foreign qualifications upload their qualification documents in Studenti Online (call 'Matriculation A.Y. 26_27 - document upload for international students with foreign qualifications') and show the originals to the International Student Administration Office; non-EU applicants residing abroad also pre-enrol on Universitaly and apply for a study visa.

English certificate: not listed among the documents of the 2026/27 admission notice for Comparative Biotechnologies; the curriculum's separate English-language page says a recognised certificate can be uploaded in Studenti Online when registering for the selection .
Official sources differ on the English requirement for the Comparative Biotechnologies curriculum (A.Y. 2026/27): the admission notice and the enrolment page ask for no English certificate at admission (B2 must be reached during the programme), while the curriculum's separate English-language page says B2 must be demonstrated for admission. Applicants should confirm the requirement with the University of Bologna before applying.
