- Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree, a three-year university diploma, or another suitable foreign qualification. They qualify directly with one of the listed degree classes: L-27 Chemical Sciences and Technologies, LM-13 Pharmacy and Industrial Pharmacy, L-Sc.Mat. Materials Science, L-2 Biotechnology, L-9 Industrial Engineering, or L-30 Physical Sciences and Technologies. Applicants with a different degree may still qualify if they have at least 60 ECTS in the listed chemistry, physics, and mathematics sectors, including at least 18 ECTS in chemical scientific disciplines and at least 18 ECTS in physical or mathematical disciplines. Still-graduating applicants may apply if they have already completed at least 80% of the CFU required by their study plan.

- English at CEFR B2 is required. The call accepts a CEFR B2 certificate issued by a University Language Center or other accredited language center, explicitly including examples such as IELTS 5.5, Cambridge First, and TOEFL iBT 80; a transcript including a CEFR B2 English exam; or the University of Bologna CLA online Oxford English test. Native English speakers and candidates who completed a first-cycle degree taught in English in countries whose first official language is English are exempt from submitting a certificate. Certificates that merely state the medium of instruction are not accepted.

- There is no standard written entrance exam for all applicants. The adequacy of personal preparation is automatically considered fulfilled if the graduate has a final grade of at least 100/110, or if a still-graduating applicant has completed at least 80% of the credits and has a weighted average of at least 25/30. If those thresholds are not met, the Evaluation Committee reviews the overall curriculum vitae et studiorum and may still admit the candidate; if documentation is insufficient, it may request an in-depth interview. Candidates not admitted in an intake may not reapply for the following intake.

- The English overview truncates the degree class as 'LM SC. MAT. -' and the call uses the abbreviation 'Lm Sc. Mat' without expanding the class description. The degree_class field is therefore reported in abbreviated official form and marked uncertain.
