- Applicants must hold a first-cycle degree in one of the listed fields: L-5, L-11, L-12, L-14, L-16, L-20, L-33, L-36, L-37, L-40, L-42, DS/1 or LMG/01. Applicants with a different degree class may still apply if they have at least 32 CFU/ECTS in the required disciplinary sectors, including international law, EU law, economic and political geography, modern and contemporary history, economics, statistics, political science, history of international relations, sociology, and African or Asian history and institutions. Applicants with pre-reform Italian qualifications or foreign qualifications are assessed by the committee for equivalence and curricular fit. Admission also requires a positive assessment of suitable preparation in the political, economic, legal, linguistic, sociological and historical areas. Applicants who have not yet graduated may apply if they have at least 140 CFU by the relevant application deadline, or 77.78% of their programme if they have a foreign, pre-reform or single-cycle law qualification, and they must obtain the qualifying degree by 2026-12-31.

- English proficiency at CEFR B2 is required. Accepted proof includes the international B2 certificates listed in the CLA equivalency table, TOEFL paper-based at least 550, Trinity GESE 7, a B2 certificate from a university language centre, or a self-declaration of a valid OOPT result from the University of Bologna or the Department of Interpreting and Translation. Applicants may also satisfy the requirement by being native English speakers, by holding at least 8 CFU in SSD L-LIN/12 with a grade of at least 24/30, by holding a degree from an English-speaking university, by holding a degree entirely taught in English, or by holding an IB, high-school diploma or GCE obtained in English with at least 50% of courses taught in English. Non-EU candidates residing abroad who wish to enrol in the Italian-taught curriculum must also pass the University Italian-language test indicated for that quota.

- No separate written entrance exam is described in the 2026/2027 admission materials. Selection is based on verification of curricular requirements and B2 English, followed by evaluation of the applicant's titles and academic record, including curricular coherence with the programme, internationalisation experiences and other activities relevant to the educational path. Rankings are then compiled by selection round.

- Proof of English language knowledge at B2 level, or the accepted substitute documentation listed in the call.
- Transcript of records and Learning Agreement correspondences for mobility credits not yet formally registered, if those credits are needed to reach the minimum threshold.
- Copy of a valid identity document or passport.
- Copy of a residence permit or equivalent-status document, where applicable.
- At matriculation for applicants with foreign qualifications: the qualification documents required by the international-student upload call and, if already available, the study visa.
