- Applicants need a first-cycle degree in the Information Engineering area (class 9 under DM 509/99 or class L-8 under DM 270/04) or a suitable foreign qualification recognised by the Evaluation Board. They must also have at least 12 CFU in ING-INF/01 and at least 36 CFU overall across three groups with at least 9 CFU in each group: Group 1 MAT/02, MAT/03, MAT/05, MAT/06, MAT/07, MAT/08, MAT/09; Group 2 CHIM/07, FIS/01, FIS/03; Group 3 ING-INF/05 and INF/01. Graduating students may apply if they have at least 150 CFU with marks already registered. For candidates still graduating, the bachelor's degree must be obtained by 2026-12-31; the programme page contains one duplicated section with 2027, but the official 2026/2027 call confirms 2026-12-31.

- English at CEFR B2 or higher is required. Accepted proof on the programme page includes IELTS 5.5 or higher, TOEFL PBT 507-557, TOEFL CBT 180-217, TOEFL iBT 80-99, Trinity ISE II, Cambridge First Certificate, LanguageCert International ESOL, Cambridge Advanced (CAE), Cambridge Proficiency (CPE), Pearson, or a B2 curricular suitability certificate from the University of Bologna Language Centre or another Italian university. The requirement is also considered met for applicants with a university degree fully taught in English lasting at least 2 academic years (120 ECTS) in an EU/EEA country, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, or Switzerland, provided English medium of instruction is clearly stated on the transcript. Certificates or MOI statements from universities outside those countries are not accepted.

- No separate written entrance exam is published in the official call. Admission is open access but conditional on a Committee assessment of curricular requirements and adequate personal competencies and skills. Adequate preparation is satisfied by one of the following: at least 15 CFU in ING-INF/01 plus at least 6 CFU in ING-INF/02 and 6 CFU in ING-INF/03; or a final graduation mark of at least 95/110; or, for graduating students, at least 150 CFU with marks and a CGPA of at least 25/30. Foreign qualifications are assessed under the same criteria when grades and credits can be converted; otherwise the Degree Board evaluates the academic career case by case. Candidates not admitted in Intake 1 may reapply in later intakes, but candidates not admitted from Intake 2 onward cannot reapply in the same academic year.

- The official 2026/2027 admission notice found on Unibo-hosted pages names code 6716 only as the curriculum 'Electronics for Intelligent Systems, Big data and internet of things'. The programme overview also lists the Italian-taught curriculum 'Ingegneria elettronica', so the published intake deadlines were recorded as programme-level data with uncertainty.
- The programme enrolment page contains duplicated career-activation text: one sentence says the degree must be obtained by 31 December 2027, while another says 31 December 2026. The official 2026/2027 admission notice was used for the year-specific deadline.
