Applicants must hold a first-cycle degree in Physics under Italian class L-30, the previous class 25 Physics, or an old-system degree in Physics or Astronomy, or an equivalent foreign qualification in the field of physics. For foreign qualifications, the Committee assesses equivalence on the basis of curricular contents, which must include exams ensuring basic knowledge of mathematics, particularly algebra, geometry, differential and integral calculus; fundamental knowledge of phenomenology and classical and modern physics models; and laboratory competencies including basic instrumentation, measurements, data processing, and use of IT tools. The graduation grade must be equal to or higher than B, typically awarded to the best 35% of students in a year according to the ECTS system.

A.Y. 2026/27: English at least CEFR B2. Proof at application: a valid English language certificate at least B2 or an equivalent proof (e.g. native speaker); if a certificate is missing, an interview is arranged to assess the English level. TU Dortmund lists 'proof of English language proficiency at the B2 level' as the programme-specific application document. No other language requirement is stated on the programme pages.

No entrance exam. The TU Dortmund Admission Board checks eligibility: a first-cycle degree in Physics (or equivalent, with equivalence examined by the Board), final or average grade of at least B on the ECTS scale (up to 2.8 German, 84/110 Italian, 14 French scale) and English at least B2; if no English certificate is available, an interview is arranged to assess the English level. The separate, optional EMJM scholarship selection ranks applicants by academic grades (60 points), motivation letter and CV (20 points) and two reference letters (20 points); the board may hold an interview if clarification is needed. A.Y. 2026/27.

• Application to TU Dortmund University (non-EU nationals with a non-EU/EEA Bachelor's: via uni-assist, with the uni-assist processing fee; EU/EEA nationals or EU/EEA Bachelor's holders: TU Dortmund online application).

• Subject and grade overviews (transcripts) of university studies and the certificate of completion of studies; if not yet graduated, a certificate from the university stating the degree being pursued and the probable graduation date (final Bachelor's certificate needed before enrolment).

• Sworn translations of all documents into German or English, plus any country-specific documents required by uni-assist.
