• A.Y. 2026-2027 official call (LM-17, Infostud code 33602) requires a three-year bachelor's degree or university diploma, or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad and recognised as such. A good knowledge of classical and modern physics, of the fundamentals of chemistry, and of the necessary mathematical and computing skills is required, together with a good written and spoken command of English including subject-specific and technical vocabulary. Applicants holding a three-year degree must have acquired at least: (a) a total of 20 credits in mathematics and/or computer science (MAT/01-MAT/08, INF/01, ING-INF/05)
• (b) 5 credits in chemistry (CHIM/01-03 and CHIM/06)
• (c) 65 credits in physics (FIS/01-FIS/08), of which at least 40 credits in experimental physics (FIS/01), 12 credits in theoretical physics, mathematical models and methods (FIS/02), and 8 credits in the physics of matter and/or nuclear and subnuclear physics (FIS/03, FIS/04). AUTOMATIC ELIGIBILITY: students holding a three-year degree in Physics (under Ministerial Decree 270/2004) awarded by Sapienza University of Rome together with a total of 8 CFU in the physics of matter and/or nuclear and subnuclear physics (FIS/03, FIS/04) are automatically deemed to meet the academic requirements. Students who do not meet these academic requirements may enrol for individual (single) examinations under the University's Student Regulations for Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes and take those examinations before enrolling on the Master's programme. Applicants who have NOT yet graduated may apply for the eligibility check, provided they obtain the degree by 23 January 2027 (Sapienza students) or by 19 December 2026 (students from other Italian or international universities). SEPARATE PRE-SELECTION THRESHOLD: for the MoveIN online pre-selection route used by international applicants, Sapienza's 'Admission requirements 2026/2027' document specifies a BSc in Physics or a similar subject, basic knowledge of Classical Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, Optics, Quantum Mechanics and Statistical Mechanics, laboratory experience, knowledge of data-analysis methods for the physical sciences, and some knowledge of computer programming and of the most important numerical methods used in physics; it also requires a CV and a motivational letter and sets a MINIMUM GPA of 80/100. For applicants holding a qualification from a foreign education system, the degree must correspond to the first cycle of the Bologna Process (EQF level 6), grant access to second-cycle programmes in the issuing country, and show no 'substantial differences' from the Italian Laurea Triennale under the Lisbon Convention / Italian ENIC-NARIC methodology.

English at CEFR B2 level or above is required, with particular reference to subject-specific and technical vocabulary in written and spoken form. A dedicated programme-specific procedure applies: on submitting the application for entry-requirements verification, ALL candidates must complete a dedicated Google Form (https://forms.gle/MANw4xa5t89zGc3h9) where they either upload an English language certificate at level B2 or higher to request exemption from the interview, or register for the English language proficiency assessment interview. Applicants who meet the admission requirements, hold a three-year bachelor's degree in Italian class L-30 and submit a certificate attesting English at CEFR level B2 or equivalent are automatically admitted without an interview; all others are assessed by the committee through assessment interviews. For the MoveIN pre-selection, Sapienza's 'Admission requirements 2026/2027' document lists these accepted scores for this programme: IELTS 5.5 or higher; TOEFL iBT 80 or higher; Cambridge English B2 First or higher; Trinity College London Integrated Skills in English (ISE) II or higher. Sapienza's university-wide English language requirements sheet additionally accepts FCE (First Certificate in English), IELTS Academic (incl. Home-Based Test), valid TOEFL iBT (incl. Home Edition), CAE, CPE, PTE General Level 3 (B2 CEFR) or higher, and PTE Academic. The requirement is waived for native English speakers, for holders of an English-taught diploma/degree from an accredited institution in the EU/EEA/Schengen area or in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States, and for holders of an International Baccalaureate, GCSE/GCE or comparable diplomas/certificates; it is completely waived for applicants from the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. No Italian language certificate is required, because the programme is taught in English (the Italian B2 test applies only to Italian-taught programmes).

No selective admission test and no TOLC/SAT; access is not capped. After the entry-requirements check, knowledge is assessed by a dedicated committee. Admission is granted AUTOMATICALLY to candidates who meet the curricular requirements, hold a three-year bachelor's degree in class L-30 and submit a certificate attesting English at CEFR B2 or equivalent. Candidates who meet the curricular requirements but not those conditions are assessed by the committee through assessment interviews on the required subjects. A programme-specific ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY ASSESSMENT applies to the Physics and Astrophysics and Cosmology master's programmes: every candidate must fill in the dedicated Google Form, either uploading a B2+ certificate to be exempted from the interview or registering for the interview. The list of exempt students and the interview timetable are published on corsidilaurea.uniroma1.it after each application window closes, with the following published schedule: applicants registered by 15/09/2026 — schedule published 17/09/2026, interviews start 21/09/2026; registered 16/09/2026-15/10/2026 — schedule 20/10/2026, interviews start 26/10/2026; registered 16/10/2026-17/11/2026 — schedule 19/11/2026, interviews start 23/11/2026; registered 18/11/2026-17/12/2026 — schedule 18/12/2026, interviews start 21/12/2026; registered 18/12/2026-14/01/2027 (reserved for Sapienza graduates or near-graduates) — schedule 15/01/2027, interviews start 18/01/2027. Non-EU applicants requiring a visa additionally go through the MoveIN online pre-selection (document-based assessment, EUR 30 application fee per application, maximum 2 applications per student per academic year), whose positive outcome yields the mandatory pre-acceptance letter but does NOT guarantee enrolment.
