restricted access — nationally programmed access (accesso programmato nazionale) under Law No. 264 of 2 August 1999. Access is by a compulsory in-person written admission test whose content is set nationally by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and scored by Cineca, with registration handled exclusively through the national Universitaly portal. The Sapienza course catalogue labels the access procedure "Admission test". Two separate quota tracks and two separate rankings exist: (1) a single NATIONAL merit ranking, drawn up by Cineca, for Italian citizens, other EU citizens, and non-EU citizens holding a qualifying Italian residence permit; and (2) a SEPARATE ranking drawn up by Sapienza itself for non-EU citizens resident abroad who need a study visa, published in the 'Enrolment' section of the programme's catalogue page. Note that this programme is NOT admitted through Sapienza's MoveIN online pre-selection platform: MoveIN covers English-taught bachelor's and master's programmes that do not require an in-person admission test, and Medicine and Surgery 'F' does not appear in the MoveIN 2026-2027 Academic Requirements document. Note also that the 'semestre aperto' (open filter semester) reform, which replaced the entrance test with an end-of-semester ranking, applies at Sapienza only to the ITALIAN-taught Medicine and Surgery and Dentistry programmes — the English-taught 'F' course retains a conventional entrance test.

English. The Sapienza course catalogue lists "Language: English" for programme code 33454, and it is the only LM-41 programme returned by the catalogue's English-language filter. The A.Y. 2026/2027 call for applications (Rector's Decree no. 1792/2026) is headed "Single-cycle Master's Degree Programmes in English with Restricted-access in: Medicine and Surgery, Medicine and Surgery 'F' (Degree Class LM-41)". English-taught status is further corroborated by the call's rule that, for course shortening or credit recognition, "only courses taken and recorded in English will be taken into account. Courses taught or taken in a language other than English will not be assessed or recognised in any way." All other Sapienza Medicine and Surgery channels (A, B, C, D, E, G, HT) are Italian-taught.

Test registration on Universitaly: opens 26 August 2026 and closes at 3 p.m. (GMT+2) on 9 September 2026 — this is the binding application deadline, and the order of location preferences becomes irrevocable at that moment. Candidates who choose to sit the test at Sapienza must ALSO register with Infostud between 7 August 2026 and 9 September 2026 (SPID or CIE credentials required for Italian citizens). The test participation fee must be paid on Universitaly by the same deadline, on pain of exclusion. Requests for disability/SLD accommodations are due by the registration deadline. Any English language certification to be used as a tie-break must be held by 9 September 2026 and declared at registration. Test date: 29 September 2026. Post-test timeline: 8 October 2026 Cineca publishes scores by label code in the Universitaly reserved area; from 19 October 2026 candidates can view their application, score and personal details; 26 October 2026 the national merit ranking is published. Enrolment deadline: within four days from 26 October 2026 inclusive, excluding Saturdays and public holidays, for candidates marked "Assigned" (failure to enrol forfeits the place); candidates marked "Reserved" may enrol or wait for the next scroll. Confirmation of continued interest must be given in the Universitaly reserved area within five days of 26 October 2026 and by 12 noon on the fifth day after each subsequent ranking, otherwise the candidate is excluded from further scrolling. First scroll of the ranking: 3 November 2026, with the same four-/five-day deadlines applying to each subsequent ranking.

A.Y. 2026/2027, for non-EU citizens permanently resident abroad who require a study visa. There is a MUCH EARLIER mandatory step than the test-registration window: the online pre-enrolment application for a study visa ("University enrolment") for A.Y. 2026-2027 had to be completed and submitted on the Universitaly website by 30 June 2026 — "Pre-enrolment on the Universitaly website is mandatory in order to obtain a study visa", and the call warns that "pre-enrolment alone does not grant admission". The Italian university named in that pre-enrolment must match the first-preference test location if the test is sat in Italy. After that, the same test-registration window applies as for EU candidates: Universitaly registration from 26 August 2026 to 3 p.m. (GMT+2) on 9 September 2026, plus Infostud registration between 7 August 2026 and 9 September 2026 if sitting at Sapienza. Test date: 29 September 2026 (sittable at Sapienza, at 16 other Italian universities, or at the overseas centres in Annex 4). Non-EU applicants resident abroad compete for the 13 reserved non-EU places on a SEPARATE ranking drawn up by Sapienza — not the national Cineca ranking — published on the programme's catalogue page in the 'Enrolment' section; the ranking threshold for them is any final score above zero. Chinese citizens under the 'Marco Polo' project apply for the places reserved for that project. Enrolment must be completed by the deadlines announced with that ranking, and successful candidates must submit their validated foreign qualification documents to the Hello – International Students Office. Withdrawal after enrolment causes the study residence permit to be revoked, forcing a return home and re-application for A.Y. 2027-2028.

  • Entry qualification: an upper secondary school diploma already obtained, or to be obtained in 2026 — "you must have obtained, or be in the process of obtaining, a secondary school diploma in 2026". The same diploma requirement applies to non-EU visa-seeking applicants. No prior university degree, minimum GPA, subject-grade threshold or CFU requirement is imposed by the call; selection is purely by admission-test score within the applicable quota. Holders of a foreign secondary qualification must have completed at least 12 years of schooling and must have the qualification validated (see required_documents). Applicants who already hold an Italian or foreign academic qualification, or who come from another degree programme, must still sit the admission test if enrolling in the first year. Score thresholds for entering the ranking, set by Ministerial Decree No. 1005 of 6 August 2026: a final score of 20 or higher for Italian/EU citizens and non-EU citizens with a qualifying Italian residence permit; a final score higher than zero for non-EU citizens resident abroad. Additional Educational Requirements (OFA) in Biology and/or Chemistry are assigned to admitted students whose total score is below 30 and who scored below 25% of the maximum in those subjects (OFA thresholds: Biology 8.6 out of a maximum 34.5

  • OFA must be cleared within the first year, otherwise the first year must be repeated. Enrolment on years after the first (transfer, programme change, course shortening) is possible only through a separate selection procedure, activated only if places are available; for course shortening and credit recognition only coursework taken and recorded in English is considered. Post-enrolment health requirement: a Mantoux tuberculin test and hepatitis B vaccination must be completed within 60 days of paying the first instalment.

No minimum English certificate is required as a condition of admission. The A.Y. 2026/2027 call imposes no English-language entry requirement in its "Requirements and conditions" section — English proficiency is screened de facto by the admission test itself, which is written entirely in English (the syllabus states "all types of questions will be formulated in English, including the use of symbolic language", and four of the sixty questions specifically assess reading comprehension in English). English certifications matter only as a TIE-BREAK: where candidates are level on score and on subject sub-scores, "possession of the language certifications referred to in Annex 1 by 9 September 2026, as declared at the time of registration for the test, shall prevail". Annex 1 (certifications recognised under Art. 3(6)(b) of Ministerial Decree No. 1005 of 6 August 2026) accepts, at B2/C1/C2 for all four skills: Cambridge English (FCE/BEC Vantage at B2; CAE/BEC Higher at C1; CPE at C2); City & Guilds (Pitman) International ESOL Diploma (Communicator B2 / Expert C1 / Mastery C2); Pearson–Edexcel PTE General Level 3 (B2), Level 4 (C1), Level 5 (C2); EDI/LCCIEB JETSET Level 5 and English for Business Level 3 (B2), JETSET Level 6 and English for Business Level 4 (C1); IELTS band 5.5–6.5 (B2), 7.0–8.0 (C1), 8.5–9.0 (C2); Trinity College London ISE II (B2), ISE III (C1), ISE IV (C2); TOEFL (ETS) score 87–109 (B2), 110–120 (C1). Exemption: "Candidates who have attended a school where English was the language of instruction for at least one academic year are automatically recognised as having the required language certification." Certifications are self-declared at test registration under Art. 46 of Presidential Decree 445/2000 and may be verified. Sapienza's general B2 English requirement for English-taught programmes belongs to the MoveIN pre-selection route, which does not cover this programme.

Its content is identical across Italy and prepared by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR); Cineca marks it; registration is on Universitaly (which lists this admission under 'IMAT'). Test date: 29 September 2026 (moved from 30 September by the Ministry); at Sapienza candidates arrive by 11:30 and the test starts at 13:30, with rooms assigned by age (room list published on the programme's Enroll page on 25 September 2026). The first-choice location chosen at registration is binding: Sapienza, 16 other Italian universities, or a test centre abroad in one of the 24 countries and territories listed in Annex 4 of the call (including Turkey); non-EU visa applicants who sit it in Italy must choose the university of their Universitaly pre-enrolment. Format: 60 multiple-choice questions with 5 options in 100 minutes - 4 on reading skills and knowledge acquired during studies, 5 on logical reasoning and problems, 23 on biology, 15 on chemistry and 13 on physics and mathematics (syllabus in Annex 2). Scoring: +1.5 for a correct answer, 0 if unanswered, -0.4 for a wrong answer. To be ranked: at least 20 points for Italian, EU and non-EU citizens legally resident in Italy; more than 0 points for non-EU citizens living abroad. Ties are broken by the biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics, logical reasoning and reading sub-scores (in that order), then by an English certificate from Annex 1 held by 9 September 2026, then by certified disability, then in favour of the younger candidate. Places 2026/27: 52 for EU and equivalent candidates and 13 for non-EU candidates living abroad. Phones, smartwatches, own pens and any notes are forbidden; candidates with a disability or SLD request extra time or aids by 9 September 2026. No interview. Scores are published on Universitaly on 8 October 2026 and the national ranking on 26 October 2026.
