Sapienza classifies it as a 'Master's degree programme with assessment of entry requirements and personal knowledge': (1) verification of curricular requirements (RC1, RC2) requested by paying a EUR 10.00 fee on Infostud with course code 33517, and (2) assessment of personal knowledge (APP1, APP2) by a committee appointed by the Department, which may include an interview. Enrolment is possible only after the Student Affairs Office confirms the positive outcome of both checks by email. Pre-selection: non-EU citizens residing abroad who need a study visa (and Chinese students in the Marco Polo programme) must first obtain a pre-acceptance letter through Sapienza's MoveIN online pre-selection (sapienza.gomovein.com, EUR 30 application fee, max 2 applications per academic year). For Italian and EU citizens (wherever resident) and non-EU citizens residing in Italy who hold a foreign qualification, the pre-acceptance letter is optional: they may go through MoveIN or register directly on Infostud, pay the EUR 10.00 fee and send their degree documents with a stamped syllabus to verificarequisiti.studentistranieri@uniroma1.it.

A.Y. 2026-2027, programme-specific dates from the official call: the eligibility (entry requirements) check must be requested by paying the EUR 10.00 fee from 2 July 2026 and by one of the following dates, as chosen — 15 October 2026, 17 November 2026, 17 December 2026, or 14 January 2027 (this last date is reserved for students who have already graduated from Sapienza or are about to graduate). 15 September 2026 is also available. General Sapienza pre-selection deadline for EU and EU-equivalent candidates (no visa needed) applying via MoveIN: 31 July 2026 (pre-selection round opened 22 December 2025). For EU citizens and non-EU citizens holding an Italian residence permit, the MoveIN pre-acceptance letter is optional; they may instead register directly on Infostud and pay the EUR 10.00 fee within the call's deadlines. First-instalment payment deadlines are set in the Regulations for Attendance on Bachelor's and Master's Degree Programmes, Chapter IX.

A.Y. 2026-2027: for non-EU candidates residing abroad who require a student visa, 15 September 2026 is the ONLY applicable date for requesting the eligibility check (EUR 10.00 fee, window 2 July - 15 September 2026), per the official programme call and point 7 of the International Student Office page. Before that, the mandatory MoveIN online pre-selection for visa-seeking candidates ran 22 December 2025 - 15 May 2026 and is now closed for A.Y. 2026-2027; a pre-acceptance letter obtained through MoveIN is compulsory for the study-visa application (Sapienza states pre-acceptance letters are issued only through the MoveIN portal and that it does not cooperate with any agency). Pre-accepted students had to submit the study-visa application on Universitaly by 30 June 2026 (23:59 Italian time). The same route applies to Chinese students in the Marco Polo programme.

English at CEFR level B2 or above is mandatory (call requirement APP2: 'Knowledge of English at B2 level or above'). Accepted proof per the official A.Y. 2026-2027 MoveIN Academic Requirements document for this programme: IELTS 5.5 or higher; TOEFL iBT 80 or higher; Cambridge English B2 First or higher; Trinity College London Integrated Skills in English ISE II or higher. Sapienza's general English language requirements sheet (language_requirements_sapienza_2026.pdf) additionally lists FCE, IELTS Academic (incl. Home-Based), TOEFL iBT (incl. Home Edition), CAE, CPE, PTE General Level 3 (B2) and PTE Academic. Waivers: native speakers of English; holders of an English-taught diploma/degree issued by an accredited institution in the EU/EEA/Schengen or in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States; holders of an International Baccalaureate, GCSE/GCE or comparable diplomas. Where no language certificate is presented, the assessment interview may also be used to verify the required level of English. No Italian language certificate is required for this English-taught programme.

No written admission test and no TOLC/SAT (A.Y. 2026/27). Assessment is documentary plus, where deemed appropriate, an interview: for applicants who meet the curricular requirements (RC1, RC2), a committee appointed by the Department of Statistical Sciences assesses the knowledge of Mathematics, Probability, Statistics and Computer Science (APP1) from the academic record and, where deemed appropriate, an interview, which may also be used to assess English at B2 level (APP2) when no language certificate is held. Based on the assessment of the curriculum and the outcome of any interview, the committee may prescribe specific study pathways that include courses not yet completed and considered essential. For applicants in the MoveIN pre-selection (mandatory for non-EU visa applicants), the academic background is assessed by a Prospective Student Selection Committee on the documents submitted; the programme's MoveIN entry sets a minimum GPA of 75/100 and states that a GRE certificate is a positive element in the evaluation (it is not required).
