Applicants need a bachelor's degree in Geological Sciences (L-34) or the corresponding class under Ministerial Decree 509/99, or another bachelor's degree / suitable foreign qualification with adequate preparation in Earth Sciences. For other degree classes and foreign degrees, the programme requires at least 44 CFU/ECTS in the core Earth-science sectors listed on the official application page. The Admission Board verifies curricular requirements, checks the correspondence of foreign coursework, and assesses personal preparation in geology, especially fundamentals of geology, geomorphology, petrology, and geophysics. Candidates may apply before graduating, but to enrol they must complete the qualifying degree and the entry requirements by 31 December 2026.

English at CEFR B2 or higher is required for admission. UniMi states that the requirement is checked by SLAM through one of these routes: an accepted B2-or-higher certificate issued no more than three years before the application date and uploaded with the admission application; a SLAM-certified English level obtained during a University of Milan degree no more than four years before the application date, checked automatically; or the SLAM entry test according to the official calendar. Earth Sciences also states that English will not be reassessed if the applicant already holds a qualifying certificate or a bachelor's degree, or equivalent foreign qualification, from a programme taught in English. UniMi's accepted-certificates page adds that accepted certificates must certify Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking, and must have been earned no more than three years before submission (two years for TOEFL). The general 2026/2027 SLAM page publishes programme-specific fallback certificate deadlines after a failed or missed SLAM test, but Earth Sciences is not visibly listed in the table section available on 6 Haziran 2026.

There is no fixed standardized entrance exam published for Earth Sciences in the visible 2026/2027 official sources. The programme page says personal preparation is assessed by the Admissions Committee and that an in-depth interview is used if deemed necessary, focusing on geology, geomorphology, petrology, and geophysics. The 2026/2027 admission notice uses broader wording and says the Admission Board may request an interview and/or a written test, in person or remotely. The visible English sources checked on 6 Haziran 2026 do not publish a fixed interview calendar.
