Applicants must hold an upper secondary school diploma or another qualification obtained abroad and recognized as suitable by the competent University boards. Other required background elements are English proficiency at B2 or higher, written comprehension, elementary logic and reasoning skills, and secondary-school mathematics covering first- and second-degree algebraic equations, inequalities and systems, plane analytical geometry, trigonometry, and exponential and logarithmic functions. The student's educational background is assessed according to the programme Academic Regulations, and any gaps must be filled within the first year.

A.Y. 2026/27: English at CEFR B2 or higher is required. Under the Pavia course regulations, passing the admission test, which the regulations describe as a knowledge test involving English TOLC-I, is sufficient proof of English at the required level; the regulations do not say whether the CEnT-S or the SAT used in the 2026/27 call count as the same proof, so whether applicants admitted with these tests need a separate English certificate is not confirmed . A B2 English certificate is required only for admission to year 2 or 3 by transfer. No Italian is required for admission; students with a non-Italian qualification must add the 3-ECTS course 'Italian Language for Foreign Students' to their study plan unless exempt (Italian school diploma or degree, Italian school abroad, or a recognised Italian certificate). Visa applicants may be asked for language proof in the visa procedure (not stated in the Pavia call) .

A.Y. 2026/27 (Pavia call): EU citizens and non-EU citizens legally residing in Italy - CEnT-S (CISIA English Test - Sciences, CEnT@UNI or CEnT@CASA, taken at any Italian university from November 2025 and by the call deadline) with a normalised score of at least 20 as the sum of the Mathematics and 'Reasoning on texts and data' sections, OR an English TOLC-I (TOLC@UNI or TOLC@CASA) taken from 1 January 2025 with a total score of at least 21/50 (English TOLC-I was discontinued in November 2025); the best available result is used and the committee converts CEnT and TOLC scores into one ranking; ties go to the higher Mathematics score, then to earlier application. OFA if the CEnT-S Mathematics normalised score is below 12 or the English TOLC-I Mathematics score is below 9/20. Non-EU citizens residing outside Italy - SAT with a total score of at least 979/1600 taken by the application deadline (scores also sent via College Board 'Send Scores', University of Pavia code 62940); ranking by SAT score; OFA if SAT Mathematics is below 510/800.

• Registration on the University of Pavia student portal (studentionline.unipv.it) and application to the call 'Artificial Intelligence - 1st year admission for EU and non-EU students regularly residing in Italy' within the intake window (EU citizens and non-EU citizens legally residing in Italy).

• CEnT-S or English TOLC-I result, retrieved automatically from CISIA; the personal data and codice fiscale used on the CISIA portal must match those on the Pavia portal.

• Foreign diploma holders: original upper secondary school diploma (or authorized copy or replacement certificate) obtained after at least 12 years of schooling, translated into Italian and legalized by the Italian diplomatic authorities or apostilled, or with a CIMEA Statement of Verification (no translation needed if the diploma is in English, Spanish or French); legalization may be supplied later within the deadlines.

• Declaration of Value or CIMEA Statement of Comparability, or the ARDI Statement of Correspondence for Lisbon Convention countries, if available (may be supplied later).

• Certificate of passing the university entrance examination, if mandatory in the country where the diploma was obtained.

• Candidates who have not yet graduated: latest transcript or a school declaration of enrolment in the final year with the expected graduation date; the diploma must reach the Pavia Admission Office by 30 September 2026.
