Enrolment window for admitted students: 5 May 2026 to 15 January 2027. Foreign-qualification enrolment documents must be completed by 30 November 2026.
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent foreign qualification recognized as suitable by the University, or graduate by 31 December 2026. The programme requires at least 42 ECTS/CFU in the philosophical sectors M-FIL/01, M-FIL/02, M-FIL/03, M-FIL/04, M-FIL/05, M-FIL/06, M-FIL/07, and M-FIL/08. The official programme application page also states that, when uploading the admission request, candidates must already have at least 126 ECTS in their previous academic career. Candidates with a final degree grade of 95/110 or above are considered to have adequate preparation; candidates below 95/110 must attend an individual interview, which may be online. Applicants with foreign degrees may also be interviewed so the admission board can assess the consistency of prior studies and philosophical preparation. UniMi graduates in Philosophy (class L-5) with a final grade of at least 95/110 are stated to meet curricular requirements automatically.
There is no numerically restricted entrance exam on the 2026/2027 official sources. Admission is open but subject to verification of entry requirements by the Admission Board. The admission notice states that the board may request an interview and/or a written test, in person or remotely. The programme application page specifies that candidates with a final grade below 95/110 must attend an individual interview, and that applicants with foreign degrees may also be invited to interview. Separately, applicants who do not already satisfy the B1 English requirement through a valid certificate or prior SLAM record may be required to sit the SLAM English entry test.
If applying with an Italian qualification from a university other than UniMi: self-certification of degree or current enrolment with exam records listing exams taken, grades, ECTS credits, and scientific-disciplinary sectors.
If applying before graduation with an Italian qualification: details of exams already passed but not yet registered, exams still to be taken, and the expected graduation date.
If using the English-certificate route for admission: a valid UniMi-recognized English certificate at B1 level or higher, issued no more than three years before the application date and uploaded during the admission process.
If applying with a foreign qualification: bachelor's degree or degree-awarding certificate, in Italian, English, French, German, or Spanish.
If applying with a foreign qualification: diploma supplement or transcript of records including courses, marks, ECTS, academic field, and the university grading system, in Italian, English, French, German, or Spanish.
If applying with a foreign qualification: passport or other valid ID.
If requesting recognition of previously earned master's-level credits: a plain-paper .doc or .pdf request specifying which Philosophical Sciences exams should be replaced, plus documentation of course titles, scientific-disciplinary sectors, and ECTS; the committee may also request previous course syllabi.
For final enrolment with a foreign qualification: legalized or apostilled bachelor's degree (or equivalent), unless exempt from legalization or Hague Apostille requirements.
For final enrolment with a foreign qualification: high school diploma.
For final enrolment with a foreign qualification: official Italian translations of academic qualifications, unless the originals are in English, French, German, or Spanish.
For final enrolment with a foreign qualification: Statement of Comparability from an ENIC-NARIC centre such as CIMEA, or a Dichiarazione di Valore; for Lisbon Convention countries, a Diploma Supplement or ARDI Correspondence Statement may replace these.
For final enrolment with a foreign qualification: Italian tax code (codice fiscale).
For final enrolment as a non-EU student: receipt of the residence permit application or a valid residence permit.
