Applicants must hold, or obtain by 31 December 2026, a bachelor's degree or other university degree awarded after a three-year course, or an equivalent foreign qualification recognized by the University as suitable. The A.Y. 2026/2027 manifesto states that 180 credits are required for admission. The programme requires basic knowledge in mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology. Eligible Italian degree classes listed on the programme application page are L-02 Biotechnology, L-05 Philosophy, L-07 Civil and Environmental Engineering, L-08 Information Engineering, L-13 Biological Sciences, L-27 Chemical Sciences and Technologies, L-29 Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies, L-30 Physical Sciences and Technologies, L-31 Computer Science and Technologies, L-32 Environmental and Nature Sciences and Technologies, L-33 Economics and Statistics, L-35 Mathematical Sciences, and L-41 Statistics. Applicants from those classes must also have at least 12 CFU in basic biological disciplines relevant to QB, specifically SSD BIO/06, BIO/09, BIO/10, BIO/11, BIO/18, and BIO/19. For candidates with foreign qualifications, the title must be recognized as appropriate by UniMi under the applicable ministerial rules and bilateral agreements.
English at B2 CEFR level is required. The programme page and manifesto state that applicants should already hold a B2 English certification before applying; however, applicants without a B2 certificate may still be accepted if their English proficiency, assessed during the entry interview, is evidently good. Knowledge of Italian is not required. The programme-specific 2026/2027 sources do not publish a separate QB-specific SLAM test calendar or a programme-specific upload deadline for English proof beyond the general admission process.
A.Y. 2026/27: the Admission Committee (programme coordinator and at least one lecturer) checks the entry requirements; applicants who meet them are invited to an online entry interview (video conference; the date and connection instructions are sent by email; a valid ID card or passport must be shown). The interview assesses scientific background knowledge related to the bachelor's degree and English language skills; for candidates with non-biological backgrounds it also identifies gaps to be filled with tutor support before enrolment. Evaluation on a 100-point scale: up to 50 points for the applicant's CV / bachelor's record (degree type, exam grades, further courses, additional degrees) and up to 50 points for the interview; minimum 60/100 for admission. The admission notice allows the Board to request an interview and/or a written test, in person or remotely, as set out on the programme website, which specifies the interview. No fixed interview dates are published.
For applicants with qualifications obtained in Italy: self-certification of degree or enrolment with exam records; for applicants from Italian universities other than UniMi, this must include the list of exams taken, grades, ECTS credits, and disciplinary scientific sectors.
For graduating applicants from Italian universities other than UniMi: declaration of exams already passed but not yet registered, exams not yet taken, and expected graduation date.
For applicants with foreign qualifications: bachelor's degree (B.Sc. or equivalent) or degree-awarding certificate, in Italian, English, French, German, or Spanish.
For applicants with foreign qualifications: Diploma Supplement, or alternatively a transcript showing courses, marks, ECTS, academic field, and the grading system used.
For applicants with foreign qualifications: passport or other valid identity document.
If the applicant uses the certificate route for English proficiency: a B2 English certificate accepted by the programme/University.
For final enrolment with foreign qualifications: legalized or apostilled bachelor's degree or equivalent, unless exempt by law.
For final enrolment with foreign qualifications: high school diploma.
For final enrolment with foreign qualifications: official Italian translation of the academic qualifications, unless the originals are in English, French, German, or Spanish.
For final enrolment with foreign qualifications: Statement of Comparability issued by an ENIC-NARIC centre such as CIMEA, or a Dichiarazione di Valore in loco; for Lisbon Recognition Convention countries, a Diploma Supplement or ARDI correspondence statement may replace the DOV and the Statement of Comparability as specified in the admission notice.
For final enrolment with foreign qualifications: Italian tax code (codice fiscale).
For final enrolment with foreign qualifications: receipt of the residence-permit application or a valid residence permit, required only for non-EU citizens.
