Kabul Tipi

OPEN ACCESS (Italian: 'accesso non programmato' - no numerus clausus, no ranked competition for places) BUT with a compulsory pre-admission eligibility check that must be cleared before enrolment. There is no TOLC, no SAT, no GRE/GMAT and no written entrance examination. The gate consists of: (1) documented minimum curricular requirements in philosophical subject areas; (2) a preliminary admission application ('Domanda di ammissione preliminare magistrali SUM') evaluated by a committee appointed by the degree programme council; (3) for candidates not automatically admitted, an admission interview (which may be held online via Webex); and (4) specifically for the 'philosophy' (PIC) curriculum, an English language test. Enrolment with formative deficiencies is expressly NOT permitted ('non essendo prevista l'iscrizione con carenze formative') - a candidate short of the required credits must first obtain them, if necessary by enrolling in single courses ('insegnamenti singoli'). TWO SEPARATE APPLICATION CHANNELS APPLY: (A) candidates holding an ITALIAN qualification apply on the www.unito.it / MyUniTo portal via the preliminary admission application; (B) candidates holding a FOREIGN qualification and all international students apply through Apply@UniTo (apply.unito.it), where the Philosophy International Curriculum has its own dedicated course entry, id 669 'Filosofia (International curriculum)'. Because PIC is a curriculum of a larger degree, the non-EU place quota is NOT specific to it: 'This degree program has 50 available places for non-European applicants residing abroad. These places are shared among all the curricula of this degree program.' Confirmation that the programme is classified as open access: the deadline shown on the Apply@UniTo course page (8 September 2026) corresponds exactly to UNITO's 'Fourth admission call for OPEN ACCESS postgraduate degree programs only'.

A.Y. 2026/2027. (A) FOREIGN-QUALIFICATION / INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS WHO ARE ITALIANS, EU CITIZENS, EU-EQUIVALENTS OR NON-EU CITIZENS LEGALLY RESIDING IN ITALY - apply via Apply@UniTo. The window shown on the Philosophy International Curriculum course page is the Fourth admission call, reserved to open access postgraduate degree programmes: 25 August - 8 September 2026, with the hard deadline stated as 8 September 2026, 23:59:59 Central European Time, carrying the notice that the call is reserved to European applicants and non-EU applicants legally residing in Italy. This group could alternatively have used the First admission call (25 November 2025 - 29 January 2026), which was open to all applicants for postgraduate degree programmes. A non-refundable EUR 60 application fee must be paid within the deadline of the chosen call. (B) APPLICANTS HOLDING AN ITALIAN QUALIFICATION - do not use Apply@UniTo. They submit the preliminary admission application ('Domanda di ammissione preliminare magistrali SUM') on the www.unito.it portal, open 3 JUNE - 31 DECEMBER 2026 for a.y. 2026-27. Evaluation runs on a rolling calendar with five cut-offs: applications submitted by 14 July receive an answer by 21 July (interview on 18 July, 16:00); by 21 September -> answer by 30 September (interview 29 September, 17:00); by 21 October -> answer by 31 October (interview 30 October, 17:00); by 21 November -> answer by 30 November (interview 27 November, 17:00); by 31 December -> answer by 13 January (interview 11 January, 17:00). Once approved, the actual enrolment ('perfezionamento della procedura di iscrizione') runs 23 July 2026 - 14 January 2027 and must be completed by 14 JANUARY 2027 as set by the Academic Senate; not-yet-graduated candidates may enrol only after obtaining the bachelor's degree and in any case no later than 14 January 2027. Applicants wanting to sit single exams to fill missing credits are advised to register for them by 31 July 2026, and any missing credits must be obtained and reported by 31 December 2026. NOTE: the same official page also contains a residual sentence referring to completing enrolment 'entro la scadenza del 16 gennaio 2026', which appears to be leftover text from the previous cycle and contradicts the 14 January 2027 date given twice elsewhere on the page.

A.Y. 2026/27 (no 2027/28 dates published yet). Non-EU citizens residing abroad (visa applicants) could apply on Apply@UniTo (course 'Filosofia (International curriculum)') only in the first admission call for postgraduate programmes, 25 November 2025 - 29 January 2026 (EUR 60 non-refundable application fee); the later 2026/27 calls, including the fourth admission call for open-access postgraduate programmes (25 August - 8 September 2026), are reserved to Italians, EU and EU-equivalent citizens and non-EU citizens legally residing in Italy. The 50 places for non-European applicants residing abroad are shared among all curricula of the Filosofia degree. Visa applicants also had to submit the Universitaly pre-enrolment application (one programme only) by 15 July 2026. The 2026/27 intake is therefore closed for visa applicants.

Kabul koşulları

Akademik geçmiş
  • A.Y. 2026/27. A three-year first-cycle degree (Italian laurea or diploma universitario) or an equivalent foreign qualification recognised under current rules; enrolment with curricular deficiencies is not allowed. Normally applicants hold (or are about to obtain) a bachelor's degree in philosophy, but candidates from other fields may apply if their exams include enough philosophy credits. Minimum curricular requirements, documented with the preliminary application: (a) at least 60 CFU/ECTS in one or more of the philosophical sectors M-FIL/01 (PHIL-01/A), M-FIL/02 (PHIL-02/A), M-FIL/03 (PHIL-03/A), M-FIL/04 (PHIL-04/A), M-FIL/05 (PHIL-04/B), M-FIL/06 (PHIL-05/A), M-FIL/07 (PHIL-05/B), M-FIL/08 (PHIL-05/C), SPS/01 (GSPS-01/A) and IUS/20 (GIUR-17/A)
  • (b) at least 18 of these CFU in the history-of-philosophy sectors M-FIL/06, M-FIL/07 or M-FIL/08
  • (c) up to 18 CFU of (a), but no more than 6 CFU of (b), may be replaced by credits in BIO/07, INF/01, L-OR/17, L-LIN/01, MAT/01, M-PED/01, M-PSI/01, M-STO/05, M-STO/06, M-STO/07 or M-STO/08; a tolerance of up to 10% (6 CFU) applies to one or more of these groups. Holders of a foreign qualification apply through Apply@UniTo, where the requirement is stated as philosophy courses worth roughly 60 ECTS in the bachelor's degree; no minimum grade is published for foreign degrees. Adequate IT skills and knowledge of a foreign language are taken as acquired; the English-taught curriculum additionally requires English (dedicated English test; for Apply@UniTo applicants English is checked in the admission interview; the programme expects level B2). A committee assesses personal preparation: candidates with the curricular requirements and an Italian L-5 (Philosophy) degree with a mark of at least 75/110 are admitted directly; candidates from other degree classes are called to an interview, possibly online. Candidates missing credits may, on the committee's indication, take single courses and must pass the exams before enrolling; missing credits must be obtained and reported to the chair of the admissions committee by 31 December 2026. ENGLISH - the operative requirement. The expected level is CEFR B2: 'In order to attend the program, students will be expected to have proficiency in English at the B2 level of the Council of Europe framework.' How it is verified differs by channel and this is the single most important practical nuance: (a) DOMESTIC / ITALIAN-QUALIFICATION CHANNEL - English knowledge must be demonstrated by PASSING A DEDICATED LANGUAGE TEST ('mediante il superamento di una apposita prova di lingua'), sat on a calendar communicated by e-mail to candidates admitted to the test, with the platform to be used also communicated by e-mail; this test applies specifically to the 'philosophy' curriculum and not to the Italian-taught curricula. (b) INTERNATIONAL / APPLY@UNITO CHANNEL - the Apply@UniTo course page lists English as the only language requirement and states simply 'Your knowledge of the English language will be verified during the admission interview.' No accessible official page publishes a list of accepted certificates, minimum IELTS/TOEFL/Cambridge scores, or explicit exemption rules for native speakers or graduates of English-medium bachelor's degrees, and no page states that a certificate must be uploaded for PIC - the verification appears to be performed in-house by UNITO (test or interview) rather than by certificate. Applicants holding a certificate should nevertheless upload it, since UNITO's general required-documentation page lists 'English language certifications' among the additional documents some postgraduate programmes require. ITALIAN - NOT required for admission and not tested. The Apply@UniTo entry for the English curriculum (course 669) lists English alone under 'Language requirements', in explicit contrast with Italian-taught UNITO programmes: the Italian-taught Filosofia entry (course 603) states that non-EU citizens residing abroad enrolling on an Italian-taught programme must sit an Italian language assessment. That Italian test therefore does not apply to PIC. The Italian-language admission regulation of the parent degree does contain a generic clause (point 6) saying that for holders of foreign academic qualifications the admission requirements and adequacy of personal preparation 'including knowledge of the Italian language' are verified through the University's international-student procedure; this is standard boilerplate written for the degree as a whole, including its Italian-taught curricula, and it sits in tension with the English-only language requirement published for the English curriculum. Italian is instead offered as optional support: PIC students may take 'Italian for International Students' (beginner or pre-intermediate) as a first-year 6-ECTS option in place of Academic English, and the microsite carries a 'Learning Italian' service page.

No standardised admission test (no TOLC, no SAT, no GRE/GMAT) and no written entrance examination. Two distinct assessment instruments apply, and PIC applicants can face both: (1) AN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEST, required specifically and only of candidates entering the 'philosophy' (English) curriculum - 'Agli studenti e alle studentesse che intendono iscriversi al curriculum "philosophy" del Corso di Laurea magistrale in Filosofia e richiesta la conoscenza della lingua inglese, da dimostrarsi mediante il superamento di una apposita prova di lingua.' The test dates are not published in advance: candidates admitted to sit it are notified by e-mail, and are separately e-mailed which software/platform will be used. (2) AN ADMISSION INTERVIEW before the admissions committee, which may be held remotely (Webex for the domestic channel; the PIC microsite historically referred to an interview 'possibly via skype' for international candidates). The interview is NOT universal for the domestic channel: candidates who hold the required credits AND an Italian class L-5 (Filosofia) bachelor's degree with a final grade of 75/110 or above are admitted DIRECTLY, their personal preparation being taken as established; candidates coming from other degree classes are summoned to the interview, at which the committee checks the adequacy of their personal philosophical preparation, individual aptitudes and study path. For international applicants through Apply@UniTo, the interview is the stated instrument for language verification: 'Your knowledge of the English language will be verified during the admission interview.' Enrolment can proceed only if the interview and/or the English language test have a positive outcome. Where curricular credits are missing, the committee may instead prescribe specific single exams to be passed before enrolment.

  • A) FOREIGN-QUALIFICATION / INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS (Apply@UniTo, apply.unito.it course 669): 1) valid passport or identity document; 2) first-cycle (bachelor's) degree certificate obtained after at least 3 years of university education; 3) official transcript of records evidencing roughly 60 ECTS of philosophy courses taken during the bachelor's degree; 4) MOTIVATION LETTER - explicitly listed under 'Other requirements' on the course page ('A motivation letter must be added to your application') and required in English or Italian for all postgraduate programmes; 5) Curriculum Vitae; 6) English language certification where held (listed among the additional documents some postgraduate programmes require); 7) optional but recommended: the degree programme syllabus / course description issued by the foreign institution, with translation into Italian, English, French or Spanish; 8) certified translation of any document not issued in Italian, English, French or Spanish - entry qualification documents are accepted as they are in those four languages; 9) payment of the non-refundable EUR 60 application fee within the deadline of the call. After submission UNITO may request further documents (Declaration of Value, CIMEA Statement of Verification or Statement of Comparability), and the International Students Office may request additional documentation again at the enrolment step; incomplete applications are not considered. B) ADDITIONAL PACKAGE RECOMMENDED DIRECTLY BY THE PIC PROGRAMME: to facilitate evaluation, the programme asks candidates to send Prof. Matteo Plebani a single combined PDF containing (i) a short motivation letter introducing yourself and explaining your motivation for enrolling in PIC, (ii) your CV, (iii) your academic credentials, i.e. diploma and transcript of grades, with an explanation of how to interpret the grades where necessary, and (iv) A WRITING SAMPLE - for example the BA thesis or a term paper; if the BA was not in English the writing sample may be submitted in Italian, German, French or Spanish. The writing sample is distinctive to PIC and is one of the three declared bases of the committee's decision, so it should not be treated as optional in practice even though Apply@UniTo does not list it. C) APPLICANTS WITH AN ITALIAN QUALIFICATION (preliminary admission application on the www.unito.it / MyUniTo portal): after logging in - non-UNITO graduates must first register on the UNITO portal - the candidate enters each exam taken specifying its SSD, ECTS and grade, then attaches a self-certification of the exams taken together with the documents proving possession of the minimum curricular requirements set out in point 3 of the admission regulation. Candidates who later obtain missing credits must send a self-certification of the exam(s) to the chair of the admissions committee and open a ticket with the student Service Desk (Category: Polo di Scienze Umanistiche).

  • All dates and admission rules shown are for A.Y. 2026/27; the A.Y. 2027/28 calls and dates are not published yet.
  • The degree's admission page still contains one sentence with the earlier date 'entro la scadenza del 16 gennaio 2026' (by 16 January 2026), while the same page gives the enrolment window 23 July 2026 - 14 January 2027 and repeats 14 January 2027 as the final date; 14 January 2027 is the date shown here.
  • The degree's admission page lists sector SPS/01 (GSPS-01/A) and notes that SPS/02 had been listed by clerical error; the admission text on the University catalogue page still shows SPS/02.
  • Italian: the degree regulation says that for holders of a foreign qualification the admission requirements, including knowledge of Italian, are checked through the University's international procedure, but the Apply@UniTo page for this English curriculum lists English as the only language requirement; no page states an Italian requirement for this curriculum.
  • English: for holders of an Italian qualification the regulation requires a dedicated English test (calendar sent by e-mail), while Apply@UniTo says English is checked during the admission interview; no certificate list, minimum scores or exemptions are published, and the B2 level is stated only on a programme page last updated in 2022.
  • Parts of the programme website are outdated (for example, the 'How to apply' page still mentions classes starting in September 2023, and an older page describes a previous fee model); current dates come from the degree's admission page and Apply@UniTo.
  • Indicative tuition: Apply@UniTo quoted a range of EUR 156 to EUR 2,800 per year for A.Y. 2025/26, depending on the student's financial situation; for A.Y. 2026/27 fees follow the University of Turin rules (for students resident abroad, based on the GDP per capita (PPP) of the country of residence).
