Entry qualification: an Italian upper-secondary school diploma (diploma di scuola secondaria superiore) or an equivalent foreign qualification recognised as suitable under Italian law. UNITO's general rules for foreign qualifications require: (1) the diploma must give access to a university programme of the same level in the country of issue; (2) it must be obtained after at least 12 years of global schooling (EQF level 4 / ISCED 3) with at least the last two years attended in that same foreign education system. Holders of a diploma obtained after 10 or 11 years of schooling must supplement it with (a) one or two completed years of university studies with all first-year (or first two years') exams passed, or (b) a post-secondary qualification from a non-university higher institution in a related field, or (c) a Foundation Programme; example countries with fewer than 12 years include Azerbaijan, Brazil (pre-2006 qualifications), Colombia, Venezuela, Russia, Belarus, Peru, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Costa Rica. Where a mandatory national university-entrance examination exists in the applicant's country (e.g. Greece, People's Republic of China, Republic of Cyprus, Spain), the same exam is also required for admission to the Italian university and must be documented. No bachelor's degree, GPA threshold, work experience or portfolio is required - selection is purely by IMAT-type test score within the quota. PLACES for a.y. 2026/2027 (definitive, set by MD No. 1005 of 6 August 2026 and confirmed by UNITO's supplementary notice): 105 places in total at UNITO - Orbassano, split into 73 places for EU candidates and non-EU candidates covered by art. 39(5) of Legislative Decree 286/1998 (i.e. non-EU citizens legally residing in Italy), 30 places for non-EU candidates residing abroad and requiring a visa, and 2 places for Chinese candidates in the 'Marco Polo' Programme. (The original UNITO call of 4 August 2026, published before MD 1005, listed provisional figures of 70 + 30 + 2 = 102; the 105/73/30/2 figures in the supplementary notice supersede them.) Passing the test and being ranked in an eligible position does not by itself guarantee enrolment: the International Students Section must first assess the foreign qualification, and only then is payment of the first instalment enabled. Successful candidates must also submit mandatory health certification for enrolment (see required_documents).

A.Y. 2026/27: English: knowledge of English at CEFR level B2 or above is required of admitted students. The check of English knowledge and competence at B2 level is deemed to have been carried out through the admission test itself (which is written entirely in English) - there is no separate mandatory English certificate as an eligibility condition. If the lecturer in charge of the English and Italian Medical Language (EIML) course finds a student's English is below B2, the student is assigned an Additional Learning Requirement (OFA / ALO) that must be cleared before the first-year EIML exam; failure to clear it is handled through further activities and assessments specified on the programme website. Holding one of the language certifications listed in Annex 3 to MD No. 1005/2026, declared at test registration, is used only as a tie-break criterion in the ranking, not as an admission requirement. Italian: no Italian language requirement at admission for this English-taught programme (the CLIQ/CISIA ITA-L2 Italian B2 certificate that UNITO requires from non-EU visa applicants applies to Italian-taught free-access programmes, not to this one). However, an Italian level of B2 is required in order to access the curricular clinical clerkship activities from year 3 onwards, which involve patient contact; this Italian requirement is considered satisfied for students who have passed SCB0562 English and Italian Medical Language and SCB0565 Clinical Language. Documents submitted for the qualification assessment are accepted in Italian, English, French or Spanish; otherwise a certified translation into one of these languages is required.

• IMAT-type national admission test (prova di ammissione) for English-taught Medicine and Surgery, identical in content at all Italian and international test venues, governed by MUR Ministerial Decree No. 1005 of 6 August 2026. Date for a.y. 2026/2027: Tuesday 29 September 2026 (corrected by a MUR errata corrige from the originally announced 30 September 2026); in Italian venues the test starts at 13:30 and lasts 100 minutes. Structure: 60 multiple-choice questions with 5 options each - 4 reading skills and acquired knowledge, 5 logical reasoning and problems, 23 biology, 15 chemistry, 13 physics and mathematics. All questions are set in English. Scoring: maximum 90 points; +1.5 per correct answer, -0.4 per wrong answer, 0 for omitted. Eligibility thresholds: EU candidates and non-EU candidates covered by art. 39(5) of Legislative Decree 286/1998 must score at least 20 points to enter the ranking; for non-EU candidates residing abroad the 20-point threshold does not apply and any score above zero is eligible (candidates who answered no question at all are excluded). Tie-breaking order: (a) higher sub-scores in biology, then chemistry, then physics and mathematics, then logical reasoning, then reading/acquired knowledge
• (b) possession, by the registration deadline, of one of the language certifications listed in Annex 3 to MD 1005/2026 as declared at test registration
• (c) disability of 66% or more / disability under art. 3(3) of Law 104/1992

• For test registration (all candidates, on Universitaly): online registration form with the irrevocable, ranked list of preferred universities/courses, declaration of any recognised language certification (Annex 3 to MD 1005/2026), and payment of the test fee. On test day: a valid identity document under Presidential Decree 445/2000 (identity card, passport, driving licence or equivalent photo ID issued by a State administration) and, for non-EU candidates, a valid residence permit or the receipt of its application, plus a copy of the receipt of payment of the admission-test contribution. For non-EU citizens residing abroad and requiring a visa: the Universitaly pre-enrolment (visa) application, submitted to UNITO as the chosen university, by 11 September 2026; plus UniTo portal registration and the MyUniTo pre-enrolment to the dedicated competition. For assessment of a foreign entry qualification by the International Students Section (requested by email from internationalstudents@unito.it to candidates ranked in an eligible position): valid ID card (EU/equivalent) or valid passport (non-EU); a residence permit valid for university enrolment for non-EU citizens legally residing in Italy under art. 39(5) of Legislative Decree 286/1998; the upper-secondary study qualification obtained after at least 12 years of global schooling, with proof of authenticity (legalisation, Apostille, ENIC-NARIC statement of verification, or an accepted national digital verification platform - such platforms exist for e.g. Turkey, India, Pakistan, Ukraine); transcript of records where there is any doubt about the years of schooling; the mandatory national entrance examination result with proof of authenticity where such an exam exists in the applicant's country; country-specific additional requirements; and optionally a declaration of value or a CIMEA statement of comparability (not mandatory but useful, and may be made mandatory at the office's discretion). If the applicant has not yet graduated at the time of application: an official certificate of enrolment in the final year stating the curriculum and the qualification to be obtained, plus an official score report for the years/semesters completed so far - the final qualification must be held in order to enrol. Documents must be signed/sealed/stamped; unsigned documents are refused, and incomplete files are not considered. For enrolment (matriculation) after assignment in the ranking: online confirmation of enrolment, a passport-style photograph, an identity document, the Italian fiscal code (codice fiscale), the printed and signed enrolment application, and the receipt of payment of the first instalment of university contributions via pagoPA in MyUniTo, all within 4 working days. For first-year students, mandatory health certification must also be uploaded: a copy of the vaccination certificate with legalisation (or Apostille) where applicable and an official Italian translation unless issued in English - covering at minimum the vaccinations compulsory in Italy (polio, diphtheria, tetanus, hepatitis B, measles, rubella) - and a certificate of a Mantoux tuberculin test performed at the local ASL or the competent health authority of the country of residence, or alternatively a lymphocyte stimulation / QuantiFERON test report. If not yet available at enrolment, a substitutive declaration undertaking to provide the documents within 30 days must be uploaded. Candidates with a disability or a specific learning disorder (DSA) who need aids or extra time must email their certification to ufficio.disabili@unito.it by the test registration deadline. Note: for this programme, candidates with a foreign qualification must NOT submit a preliminary application through Apply@UniTo.
