OPEN ACCESS (Italian 'accesso libero' / 'free access' - no numerus clausus, no ranking, no TOLC, no SAT, no GRE/GMAT) BUT WITH A COMPULSORY QUALIFYING ASSESSMENT that must be passed before enrolment can be completed. The microsite states plainly: 'The Master's degree in Material Science is a free access course' and 'The Master's Degree in materials science is a free-access degree, but in order to enrol, you have to fulfil specific curricular requirements and have an adequate personal background.' The UNITO catalogue lists 'Entry requirements: course without restricted number of places'. THREE DIFFERENT ROUTES, with different assessments: 1. Applicants with a FOREIGN degree (any citizenship) - apply through the Apply@UniTo portal (apply.unito.it, course 246). Their CV is first evaluated; those admitted to the test are then emailed an invitation to sit a WRITTEN ONLINE TEST on the UNITO Moodle platform. apply.unito.it: 'Applicants will be asked to attend an online test on the Moodle platform. Information about the test will be sent via email to the students admitted to the test after an evaluation of the CV.' 2. Applicants from ITALIAN institutions other than UNITO - register on the UNITO portal, then pre-apply on MyUniTo under 'Enrolments > Evaluation test', which automatically books them for an ORAL ADMISSION INTERVIEW. 3. Applicants from the UNIVERSITY OF TURIN itself - MyUniTo 'Evaluation test' registration only ('There will not be any written test, this is a formal procedure to finalize the application'), followed by the same oral interview. EXEMPTION (routes 2 and 3): 'All students who have obtained a degree mark of 94/110 or higher are exempt from the interview.' However, 'All students, including those exempted from the interview, must register for the assessment test, to allow the commission to evaluate the qualification.' In the 2024/25 version of the page the exemption was worded differently and narrower ('Students from the Bachelor degree in "Scienza e tecnologia dei materiali" obtained at the university of Turin are exempted from the oral interview'), so this rule has been broadened over recent cycles. TERRITORIAL CAP: the only published cap is territorial, not academic - apply.unito.it: 'This degree program has 50 available places for non-European applicants residing abroad.' There is no EU sub-quota and no published total intake figure. Roughly half the student intake is reported to come from outside Italy.

A.Y. 2026/27 (no 2027/28 dates published yet). Non-EU citizens residing abroad (visa applicants) could apply on Apply@UniTo only in the first admission call for postgraduate programmes, 25 November 2025 - 29 January 2026 (EUR 60 non-refundable application fee); the later 2026/27 calls, including the fourth admission call for open-access postgraduate programmes (25 August - 8 September 2026), are reserved to Italians, EU and EU-equivalent citizens and non-EU citizens legally residing in Italy. After a CV evaluation, admitted candidates take the online Moodle test. The programme reserves 50 places for non-European applicants residing abroad. Visa applicants also had to submit the Universitaly pre-enrolment application (one programme only) by 15 July 2026. The 2026/27 intake is therefore closed for visa applicants.

Kabul koşulları

Akademik geçmiş
  • A.Y. 2026/27. A bachelor's degree (university degree of at least 3 years) obtained in Italy or abroad in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics or Materials Engineering. Accepted Italian classes: L-Sc.Mat. Scienze dei Materiali
  • Classe 21 Scienze e Tecnologie Chimiche (D.M. 509/99) / L-27 Scienze e Tecnologie Chimiche (D.M. 270/04)
  • Classe 25 Scienze e Tecnologie Fisiche (D.M. 509/99) / L-30 Scienze e Tecnologie Fisiche (D.M. 270/04)

  • ENGLISH ONLY - no Italian language requirement is published (the degree is fully English-taught). Required level: CEFR B2. The microsite's Admission requirements page: 'The English language knowledge level must be not less than the B2 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).'
  • HOW IT IS VERIFIED - this programme is unusual among UNITO masters in that it publishes NO accepted-certificate list and NO minimum IELTS/TOEFL/Cambridge scores. Instead, apply.unito.it states under 'Language requirements: English' simply: 'Your knowledge of the English language will be verified through the online test.' In other words, English proficiency is assessed inside the Moodle admission test itself, one of whose published topics is 'Active and passive knowledge of scientific English'. For Italian-route applicants, English is assessed within the oral interview.
  • PRACTICAL CONSEQUENCE: an external English certificate (IELTS/TOEFL/Cambridge/PTE/Trinity) does not appear to be a formally mandatory upload for this specific programme, in contrast to e.g. UNITO's Molecular Biotechnology master which publishes a strict certificate list with minimum scores. However, apply.unito.it's general 'Required documentation' page notes that some postgraduate programmes require 'English language certifications' as additional documents, and the International Students Office may request further documentation at the enrolment step - so applicants who hold a B2+ certificate should upload it, and applicants without one should expect the online test to be the sole proof. No exemption rule (native speaker, prior English-medium degree) is published. [uncertain - the absence of a certificate requirement is inferred from the absence of any such clause on the live apply.unito.it course page and on the microsite; it is not stated anywhere as an explicit 'no certificate needed' rule, and the microsite's live 2026/27 wording could not be opened directly]

  • All dates and admission rules shown are for A.Y. 2026/27; the A.Y. 2027/28 calls and dates are not published yet.
  • Some pages of the programme website ('How to apply', 'Key information') still show application windows from earlier years; the 2026/27 dates shown here come from the programme's 2026/27 admission page and the Apply@UniTo 2026/27 call calendar.
  • The University of Turin catalogue page for this programme says 'To enrol in the Materials Science program, you must take the TOLC-B', while the programme's own 2026/27 admission page and the Apply@UniTo page describe only the interview (Italian degrees) and the online Moodle test (foreign degrees). This difference is not explained on the official pages.
  • Dates of the online Moodle test for holders of a foreign degree are not published; candidates admitted after the CV evaluation are informed by e-mail.
  • English (B2): Apply@UniTo says English is verified through the online test; no official page says how English is checked for holders of an Italian degree, including those exempt from the interview, and no page states whether an English certificate is required.
  • The enrolment window 23 July 2026 - 14 January 2027 is the University's general window for free-admission Master's programmes; the programme's own admission page does not give a separate enrolment deadline.
  • The Erasmus Mundus MaMaSELF track (International Master in Materials Science, double degree) is a separate application route with its own call and scholarships; its admission rules are not covered here.
  • Indicative tuition: in A.Y. 2025/26 fees ranged from EUR 156 to EUR 2,800 per year, depending on the student's financial situation; for A.Y. 2026/27 the University of Turin sets fees by ISEE or, for students resident abroad, by the GDP per capita (PPP) of the country of residence.
