A.Y. 2026/27 (Energy Engineering Teaching Regulations section 6; programme page). A bachelor (Laurea) degree or higher is required; students enrolled in a bachelor at Polimi or another Italian university may apply if they graduate before enrolling (Italian-degree final-year students: at least 145 certified ECTS). An Evaluation Commission decides on the academic career. Foreign-degree applicants: a foreign qualification equivalent to a bachelor with an adequate background in fundamental engineering subjects and in disciplines relevant to Energy Engineering; admission follows an eligibility evaluation of the previous career under Polimi's procedures (the programme site adds that the committee also considers complementary experiences such as work, internships, study abroad and extracurricular activities); the degree must give access to EQF level 7 and Polimi's country-specific minimum CGPA applies where one is set (e.g. Turkey 3 out of 4). Italian-degree applicants: the 'adjusted' threshold S = M - (N-3)/2 (M = credit-weighted average, N = years taken to earn the bachelor) must reach SNA = 21 for Polimi BSc Aerospace, Energy or Mechanical Engineering, 24 for a BSc in Energy Engineering from an Italian university, 25 for any Engineering BSc from Polimi or another Italian university and 27 for other Italian bachelors; missing background is assigned as curricular integrations (to be passed before enrolment) or compulsory courses using a Table of Minimum Requisites of credits per subject group (e.g. 25 ECTS mathematics/statistics, 5 numerical analysis, 15 mechanics, 15 physics and chemistry with at least 5 chemistry, 10 electrical machines/computer science/control, 5 economics/management, 15 thermodynamics/heat transfer/fluid mechanics, 15 propulsion/machine design/energy systems, 15 structural mechanics/design/plants/materials; a separate table applies to the EEE Piacenza track); more than 60 ECTS of integrations redirects the applicant to the bachelor.
A.Y. 2027/28 (Admissions Office list 'updated for A.Y. 2027/2028'). English certification is required of all MSc applicants: TOEFL iBT / Home Edition at least 78 for tests taken until 20/01/2026 or at least 4.5 for tests taken from 21/01/2026 (paper-based at least 547, computer-based at least 210; Polimi TOEFL code 9795); TOEIC at least 785 Listening & Reading + 310 Speaking & Writing (from A.Y. 2027/28; the 720 L&R threshold applied to 2026/27 only); Cambridge Proficiency grade C, Advanced grade C or First grade B; IELTS Academic or General Training at least 6; Trinity ISE II; PTE Academic overall at least 59; Pearson PEIC overall at least 59; LanguageCert ESOL B2 Communicator (4 skills). Certificates considered expired by the issuing body are not accepted. Exemption: a bachelor taught in English for at least 3 years, proven by a university document confirming that at least 75% of the courses were taught in English. The certificate is not needed to submit the application and does not affect the evaluation, but it is mandatory for the admission letter, merit-based scholarships, the visa and enrolment. The programme regulations add that Italian-degree applicants without an English certificate are admitted and enrolled only after demonstrating the required proficiency. Italian is not an entry requirement for this English-taught programme; international students must prove Italian proficiency (B2 certificate, or Polimi's free course and exit test) before graduating (Italian OFA).
None: no admission test, no interview and no portfolio for this programme (A.Y. 2026/27). Admission is decided by the programme's Evaluation Commission on the academic career (for Italian degrees the adjusted average threshold and the Table of Minimum Requisites; for foreign degrees the eligibility evaluation of the previous career) plus English certification; curricular integrations or compulsory courses may be assigned. The GRE General Test is optional for Engineering applicants (no minimum score; Polimi code 0495).
Online application on Polimi Online Services (up to two MSc programmes per semester) and payment of the non-refundable application fee: EUR 50 early bird (1 October - 1 December) or EUR 150 afterwards (A.Y. 2026/27 amounts)
