A.Y. 2026/27 (2027/28 dates not published on 27 Sept 2026). Non-EU applicants living abroad with a foreign bachelor degree apply in the Architecture and Design general call: 1 October 2025 - 29 January 2026 (11.59pm CET; early bird deadline 1 December 2025 with the EUR 50 fee, EUR 150 afterwards); outcomes by the end of May 2026. Design programmes admit students in the 1st semester only (no February intake), and the additional call of 27 February - 31 March 2026 is reserved to EEA students and non-EEA residents in Italy; no programme-specific exception is published. Extra-EU quota: 15 of 135 places in the 2026/27 places table (the Teaching Regulations state 25 of 145). Universitaly visa application: Polimi strongly suggests that students admitted to the 1st semester 2026/27 submit it by the end of June 2026.
A.Y. 2026/27 (Teaching Regulations and School of Design admission guide 2026/27). Eligible degrees: a bachelor in class L-4 Industrial Design, or a first-level AFAM academic diploma in Design or Fine Arts; bachelors in L-1, L-3, L-8, L-10, L-17, L-20 or L-31 are admitted if they include at least 30 CFU in CEAR-08/D (formerly ICAR/13), otherwise the Commission may assign curricular integrations to be completed before the assessment (Communication Design: max 6 places for such integrations). Foreign degrees: equivalent to a first-level degree in Design or a related field and deemed suitable by the Programme Board; the same criteria apply when subject areas and credits can be identified, otherwise the career is evaluated individually; the background must be consistent with Communication Design. Assessment prerequisites: weighted average of at least 23/30 for Polimi graduates and 25/30 for graduates of other Italian universities (the average is assessed only for Italian qualifications), plus English proficiency at least B2. Final-year bachelor students may apply with at least 145 CFU (rule stated for A.Y. 2026/27 and 2027/28); Italian-degree applicants must graduate by 15 December 2026. Foreign degrees must also give access to EQF level 7 and meet the Admissions Office's country-specific minimum CGPA where one is set (for example India 70/100, China 80%, Turkey 3/4, Iran 15.5/20, Pakistan 3.3/4). School of Design continuity students may use direct admission (parameters valid up to 2027/28 admissions: degree within 4 years, at least 114 CFU and a weighted average of at least 27/30 by 10 October of the second calendar year after first enrolment).

Exemption: a bachelor taught in English for at least 3 years, proven by a university document confirming that at least 75% of the courses were taught in English. Timing: Italian-degree applicants must upload the certificate within the School of Design application deadline or they are excluded; for foreign-degree applicants the Admissions Office says the certificate is not needed to submit the application and does not affect the evaluation but is mandatory for the admission letter, scholarships, visa and enrolment, while the School of Design 2026/27 guide says English proficiency is an assessment prerequisite that 'also applies to candidates with a foreign degree' [uncertain which timing applies to foreign-degree applicants]. Italian: required only for international applicants who choose a section taught in Italian (sections C1 and C2 are Italian/English, C3 is English-taught); the Admissions Office asks for a CLIQ B2 Italian certificate for programmes taught in Italian and English. International students in English-taught sections must prove Italian before graduating (Italian OFA).
