TWO CITIES IN TWO COUNTRIES, one year in each. unibz brochure 'At a glance': 'Campus: Bozen-Bolzano and Innsbruck'. YEAR 1 — Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, main campus, Universitätsplatz 1 / piazza Università 1, 39100 Bozen-Bolzano, Italy (Faculty of Agricultural, Environmental and Food Sciences). Verbatim: 'The first year must be completed at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and is organised in compulsory core courses (60 ECTS) for all students divided between the two semesters.' YEAR 2 — University of Innsbruck, Austria, specifically the Faculty of Biology: 'The second year at the University of Innsbruck, with one compulsory module and several elective modules...' The brochure's study plan is explicit that year 2 sits '(at Faculty of Biology, University of Innsbruck)'. THESIS — location is the student's choice: '30 CP Thesis (at either Free University of Bozen-Bolzano or University of Innsbruck)'; 'The degree can be successfully concluded after the elaboration and defense of an original thesis work, which can be performed at either universities.' PRACTICAL GEOGRAPHY: Bolzano and Innsbruck are about 120 km apart across the Brenner Pass, roughly 2 hours by train or car; both are Alpine cities, and the programme 'takes advantage of the particular location of the partner universities in the Central Alps'. This is a genuine RELOCATION, not a commute: the student moves country, housing, bank and (for non-EU citizens) immigration status between year 1 and year 2. ATTENDANCE ASYMMETRY (brochure, verbatim): 'There is no compulsory attendance at unibz, although attendance of lessons, exercise classes and lab work is strongly recommended. Attendance is instead compulsory for part of the courses offered at the University of Innsbruck.' NOT a NOI Techpark, Brixen-Bressanone or Bruneck-Brunico programme.

RESTRICTED ACCESS (numero programmato / limited places), decided by a purely DOCUMENT-BASED, FORMULA-DRIVEN ranking. There is NO entrance exam, NO TOLC, NO SAT, NO GRE/GMAT, NO portfolio, NO motivation letter, NO video presentation and — unlike almost every other unibz master — NO INTERVIEW. This is one of the simplest admission procedures at unibz. Mechanics, verbatim from the admission-information PDF and the signed ranking list: 'If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the maximum number of available places (see section "Available places"), you will be assessed for admission based on your academic qualifications. The Admission Committee can assign up to a max. of 95 points based on the: final bachelor grade expressed out of 30 (for applicants already graduated); weighted grade average expressed out of 30 (for applicants not graduated yet). The Admission Committee will assign 2 points to candidates who graduated with honors (cum laude). Candidates who possess at least a C1 certificate in the official teaching language of the course (English) will be assigned 3 points. Minimum score for admission is 55/95 points.' So the components are exactly four: (1) an ELIGIBILITY CHECK on the entry qualification / L-25 credit thresholds; (2) a LANGUAGE GATE at English B2 — failure means exclusion from the admission procedure regardless of grade (2 EU applicants were excluded on this ground in the 2026/27 Early Bird round); (3) an ARITHMETIC SCORE derived from the bachelor grade, plus 2 for cum laude and plus 3 for a C1 English certificate; (4) a HARD THRESHOLD of 55/95, below which a candidate is excluded even if places remain (2 EU applicants fell here in Early Bird 2026/27). A MANDATORY STRUCTURED EXCEL FILE must be uploaded ('Please use the file available in the application portal'). Applications go through the unibz Application Portal at https://aws.unibz.it/exup. TIE-BREAK, in order: 'If scores are equal, applicants who have already graduated take precedence over applicants who have not graduated yet. In the event of further equal score, the younger applicant will be given priority (art. 3 L. 127/1997).' HISTORICAL CHANGE: the 2019/20 manifesto listed the procedure as 'Academic qualification and eventual interview' with fixed interview windows (6–10 May and 3–4 September 2019). The interview has since been abolished; no interview appears anywhere in the 2026/27 documents.
Resmî Eğitim Dili
FULLY ENGLISH-TAUGHT AT ENTRY AND FOR THE ENTIRE FIRST YEAR — this is NOT one of unibz's trilingual programmes. unibz brochure 'At a glance', verbatim: 'Courses will be taught in English'. unibz admission-information PDF, verbatim: 'The official teaching language is English.' The only admission language requirement is English B2; there is NO German and NO Italian requirement at entry or at graduation. IMPORTANT SECOND-YEAR NUANCE, visible only on the Innsbruck side: the University of Innsbruck's own EMMA page states 'The official teaching language is English. Elective compulsory subjects are offered in English, German or Italian.' unibz's own 2019/20 Study Manifesto said the same in older wording: 'The official teaching language is English. Optional courses will be offered in English, German or Italian', and listed 'Languages used in teaching: English (main language), German, Italian'. CONSEQUENCE: year 1 in Bolzano (60 ECTS of compulsory core courses) is entirely in English, but the year-2 elective menu at Innsbruck (23 ECTS of free-choice courses drawn from the Innsbruck Faculty of Biology catalogue) includes German-language options, so an English-only student has a NARROWER, not an empty, choice in Innsbruck. The one compulsory year-2 module and the thesis are English. WARNING ABOUT A MISLEADING FIELD: the Innsbruck programme database lists 'Language: German, English, Italian' and links a page called 'Language Certificates (German)'. That is Innsbruck's generic institutional metadata; it is NOT an EMMA-specific German entry requirement, because admission is run entirely by unibz, whose governing document requires only English B2. Exactly how many of the Innsbruck free-choice modules are guaranteed in English each year is not published; this is the single most important question an English-only applicant should put to the degree course director before accepting a place.

THREE POSSIBLE SESSIONS for EU citizens and citizens given parity of treatment; two were actually opened for 2026/27. All closing times are noon (12:00) local Italian time. Dates normalised to ISO; unibz writes DD/MM/YYYY.
EARLY BIRD APPLICATION — 2 Mart 2026 to 28 Nisan 2026 (unibz: 'Application: 02/03 - 28/04/2026 (by noon local time)'). This is also the ONLY window open to non-EU citizens living abroad. Language exams within this session: 16 Mart 2026 (registration 2 Mart 2026 to 9 Mart 2026) and 16 Nisan 2026/17 and 20 Nisan 2026/21 (registration 24 Mart 2026 to 8 Nisan 2026).
LATE APPLICATION (EU citizens only) — 28 Mayıs 2026 to 20 Ağustos 2026 (unibz: 'Application: 28/05 - 20/08/2026 (by noon local time)'). Language exams: 22 Haziran 2026 to 26 Haziran 2026 (registration 28 Mayıs 2026 to 15 Haziran 2026) and 27 Temmuz 2026 (registration 10 Temmuz 2026 to 19 Temmuz 2026). This session was genuinely worth entering in 2026/27, because the Early Bird round admitted only 31 against 35 EU places, and the rollover rule sends the 4 unfilled places into the Late round on top of its own 10 — up to 14 EU places. Verbatim on re-applying: 'You might apply for more than one study programme. If you are excluded in the first session, you might apply again in the second one', and the ranking list tells both the below-threshold and the language-failed candidates 'They may re-apply in the second session.'
AB / AEA dışı adaylar
ONE WINDOW ONLY, NO SECOND CHANCE: 2 Mart 2026 to 28 Nisan 2026 (Early Bird), by noon local Italian time on the closing day. Verbatim: 'Non-EU-Citizens (living outside of Italy): Only one application period is offered. After the deadline it is not possible to apply anymore. Application fee: € 50.'
This is the single most important planning fact for a Turkish, Indian, Iranian, Pakistani, Nepali or other non-EU applicant who does not hold a qualifying Italian residence permit: miss 28 April and the academic year is gone. There is no Late Application and no Additional Session for this category — the Late round is headed 'only for EU citizens', and the ranking list's second sheet is headed 'NON-EU CITIZENS LIVING ABROAD' for Early Bird only.
DOWNSTREAM DEADLINES for a successful non-EU applicant in 2026/27: ranking list by 27 Mayıs 2026 (in practice signed and dated 22 Mayıs 2026); first instalment of EUR 600 to secure the place by 5 Haziran 2026 noon; waiting-list call-ups from 8 Haziran 2026; Universitaly pre-enrolment immediately after payment (mandatory); visa application at the Italian consulate; enrolment 10 Temmuz 2026 to 13 Ekim 2026 noon. The gap between securing the place in early June and the October enrolment deadline is the visa window, and it is tight — Italian consulates in high-demand countries book out months ahead, so the Universitaly pre-enrolment should be filed the same week the instalment is paid.

Akademik geçmiş
FOUR ALTERNATIVE QUALIFICATION ROUTES (admission-information PDF and signed ranking list, identical wording): '1. an adequate knowledge of the basic disciplines of Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology and fundamental knowledge of the subjects preparatory to the fundamental disciplines of this degree class. 2. a bachelor degree in the Italian degree class L-25 (Agriculture and Forestry) ex D.M. 270/2004 or equivalent qualification gained abroad. 3. a bachelor degree in biology of the partner University Innsbruck. 4. another Italian or foreign degree if you certify the following ECTS credit points: 20 credit points in the scientific sectors of the fundamental subjects ("attività di base") of the class L-25 (Agriculture and Forestry), and 30 credit points in the scientific sectors of the typical subjects ("attività caratterizzanti") of the class L-25 (Agriculture and Forestry), related at least to two different subject areas.'
ROUTE 4 IS THE ONE MOST FOREIGN APPLICANTS ARE ASSESSED AGAINST, and it is far LOOSER than the equivalent grids at unibz's engineering masters: only 50 ECTS in total (20 'attività di base' + 30 'attività caratterizzanti'), against for example 85 ECTS across three separate blocks for the Master in Energy Engineering. Note also the diversity condition attached to the 30: 'related at least to two different subject areas'.
CRITICAL DIFFERENCE FROM OTHER UNIBZ MASTERS — NO SSD CODE LIST IS PUBLISHED. Unlike Energy Engineering or Software Engineering, the EMMA documents do NOT enumerate the qualifying scientific-disciplinary sectors (neither the new post-2024-reform codes such as AGRI-xx/x, BIOS-xx/x, CEAR-xx/x nor the old AGR/xx, BIO/xx, ICAR/xx codes). Instead unibz outsources the judgement to human assessment and tells applicants to ask: 'For details about the required ECTS credit points, please contact the Faculty Secretariat at agriculture@unibz.it.' The reference frame is the ministerial table for the Italian bachelor class L-25 (Agriculture and Forestry), whose 'attività di base' are the mathematics/physics/informatics, chemistry and biology foundation areas and whose 'attività caratterizzanti' are the agronomic, forestry, animal-production, agricultural-engineering, agricultural-economics and land/environment areas. PRACTICAL IMPLICATION: an applicant cannot self-verify eligibility from the published documents; contacting the Faculty Secretariat and the degree course director BEFORE applying is effectively mandatory, and unibz says so twice.
Dil yeterliliği
ONE REQUIREMENT ONLY: ENGLISH AT B2 (CEFR) FOR ADMISSION. Verbatim: 'The official teaching language is English. Therefore, the following language requirements apply, otherwise you will be excluded from the admission procedure: Entry level (to gain admission) English: B2. The levels of the Common European Framework of Reference apply.'
There is NO German requirement, NO Italian requirement, NO third-language B1 threshold and NO graduation/exit language requirement. This holds even though the second year is spent in a German-speaking country: admission is governed entirely by unibz, and Innsbruck imposes no separate language admission of its own ('The admission to the study programme takes place by the rectorate... Information on the admission and the admission procedure will be found on the website of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano').
THE LANGUAGE GATE IS A HARD KNOCK-OUT AND IS ACTUALLY ENFORCED: failure to prove B2 means exclusion from the admission procedure regardless of grade. In the 2026/27 Early Bird EU round, two applicants (IDs 153130 and 153519) were listed under 'The following persons do not meet the language requirements for admission and are therefore excluded from the admission procedure. They may re-apply in the second session.' That is roughly 5% of the EU applicant pool lost on language alone — in a round that was otherwise under-subscribed, meaning those candidates would almost certainly have been admitted had their language evidence been in order.
Sınav / değerlendirme
NO ENTRANCE EXAM OF ANY KIND — this is one of the very few unibz programmes with no test and no interview at all. Specifically absent: no unibz admission test; no TOLC (TOLC-I, TOLC-E or TOLC-S); no CENT-S; no SAT, GRE or GMAT and no GMAT/GRE bonus; no subject test; no oral interview (contrast the Master in Energy Engineering, whose non-EU applicants faced a 'mandatory interview'); no portfolio review; no video presentation. Admission is decided purely on uploaded documents plus an arithmetic score.
THE ONLY EXAM AN APPLICANT MIGHT SIT is the ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY EXAM at the unibz Language Centre, and only if they cannot prove B2 English by medium of instruction or by a recognised certificate. It is held ONLINE. 2026/27 sittings and their registration windows, verbatim: Early Bird — '16/03/2026 (registration: 02 - 09/03/2026) and 16 - 17 and 20 - 21/04/2026 (registration: 24/03 - 08/04/2026)'; Late — '22 - 26/06/2026 (registration: 28/05 - 15/06/2026) and 27/07 (registration: 10 - 19/07/2026)'. PROCEDURAL TRAP, verbatim: 'If you start your application outside a language exams registration period, you must return to the portal during one of the periods indicated above in order to register for an exam.'
HISTORICAL NOTE: an interview did once exist. The 2019/20 Study Manifesto lists the admission procedure as 'Academic qualification and eventual interview' with published windows ('1st Session: between 6 and 10 May 2019; 2nd Session: between 3 and 4 September 2019'). It has been removed from the current procedure and appears nowhere in the 2026/27 admission-information PDF, brochure or signed ranking list.
3. Hazırlanacak belgeler
UPLOADED IN THE APPLICATION PORTAL (https://aws.unibz.it/exup) AT APPLICATION — a short list by unibz standards, only three items plus ID:
(1) A VALID ID CARD OR PASSPORT, front and back, at account creation — 'if your document is invalid, incomplete or unreadable, you will be excluded from the admission procedure'.
(2) QUALIFICATION DOCUMENTS. Graduated in Italy: diploma supplement or a D.P.R. 445/2000 self-declaration of the degree with final grade and passed exams; if not yet graduated, a certificate listing the exams passed. Graduated abroad: diploma supplement or final degree certificate with the passed exams; if not yet graduated, a transcript of records — 'in Italian, German or English'. Mandatory contents: 'final grade, passed exams with indication of grade and date of passing, credit points, scientific fields (the latter only for Italian titles)'. FOR FOREIGN QUALIFICATIONS ADDITIONALLY: 'scale of grades awarded by the university of provenance (with a minimum final grade to obtain the qualification and a maximum final grade achievable)' — indispensable here, because the entire ranking score is computed from the grade. Also, if the qualification was gained abroad, the DIPLOMA itself must be uploaded ('if you are not yet in possession of the diploma, you'll need to upload it upon enrolment').
DATA YEAR: everything here is the 2026/27 cycle, from documents stamped 'Latest update: 24.07.2026' and marked 'Subject to change', plus the signed Early Bird ranking list of 22/05/2026. Read on 29 Ağustos 2026, the 2026/27 intake is nearly closed: both application windows have expired, the Late ranking list is pending publication (due 03/09/2026), and only enrolment runs to 13/10/2026 (late enrolment to 11/12/2026). A prospective applicant is targeting 2027/28, whose dates and quotas are NOT yet published. Treat every date here as an indicative pattern, not a commitment — and note that EMMA's quotas have grown steadily (30 EU + 5 non-EU in 2019/20 → 45 EU + 8 non-EU in 2026/27).
RESOLVED CONTRADICTION: the brochure and programme page say 'Places available: 45 EU + 8 non-EU' while the detailed section lists EU Early Bird 35 + EU Late 10. These agree — 45 is the EU TOTAL across the two sessions. An early automated read of the HTML page misreported '45 (Early Bird) + 10 (Late)'; that reading is WRONG and is corrected here against the PDF and the signed ranking list.
RESOLVED CONTRADICTION 2: the archived 2019 manifesto is filed under a URL containing 'LM33', but the document body states 'Degree class LM-73'. The filename is a unibz error; LM-73 is correct.
RESOLVED CONTRADICTION 3: the University of Innsbruck's programme database lists 'Language: German, English, Italian' and links a 'Language Certificates (German)' page, which reads as a German entry requirement. It is not. Innsbruck's own prose says 'The official teaching language is English. Elective compulsory subjects are offered in English, German or Italian', and admission is run entirely by unibz, which requires only English B2. The German metadata is institutional boilerplate.
OPEN UNCERTAINTIES, roughly in order of consequence for an applicant:
(1) THE AUSTRIAN YEAR IS UNDOCUMENTED FOR NON-EU STUDENTS. Neither university publishes the immigration route, timing, responsibility or cost of moving a third-country national to Innsbruck for year 2, nor what happens to the Italian permesso di soggiorno and its exam-based renewal conditions during that year. The applicable framework is EU Directive 2016/801 intra-EU student mobility, but this is a legal inference, not a published unibz/uibk statement. This is the single largest gap in the record.
(2) AUSTRIAN FEES. Innsbruck says 'Tuition fees are to be paid at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano', but Austrian public universities normally levy an ÖH contribution (about EUR 25 per semester) on all enrolled students and EUR 726.72 per semester tuition on non-EU degree students; third-party Austrian portals list exactly those figures against EMMA. Whether EMMA double-degree students are exempt is not stated by either university. Potential undisclosed cost of up to roughly EUR 1,450 per year for a non-EU student.
(3) THE 35-STUDENT COOPERATION CAP. Innsbruck states 'According to the cooperation agreement max. 35 students will be admitted per academic year' — the same figure the programme launched with in 2014 — while unibz admitted 39 in the Early Bird round alone for 2026/27 and offers 53 places in total. Whether progression to the Innsbruck year is guaranteed for every admitted student is unresolved.
(4) YEAR-2 STRUCTURE DISAGREES BETWEEN THE TWO SITES. unibz: one compulsory module, 7 + 23 + 30 = 60 ECTS. Innsbruck: 'two compulsory modules' on the overview page, and 7.5 + 22.5 + 28 = 58 ECTS on the Department of Ecology page. Unreconciled.
(5) HOW MANY INNSBRUCK FREE-CHOICE COURSES ARE OFFERED IN ENGLISH each year is not published; 'Every year the Faculty publishes the list of free choice courses offered.' Decisive for an English-only student.
(6) NO SSD CODE LIST IS PUBLISHED for the 20 + 30 ECTS entry thresholds — unusually for unibz, which publishes full SSD tables for its engineering masters. Applicants cannot self-assess eligibility and are told to contact the Faculty Secretariat and the degree course director.
(7) THE GRADE-TO-SCORE CONVERSION (base = 5 × grade/30 − 55, so 22/30 → 55 and 30/30 → 95) is DERIVED from the 40 published 2026/27 scores, not published by unibz. Every observed score fits it, but it is an inference. Related: no cum laude (+2) award is visible in the 2026/27 data, and how a Turkish honours distinction maps to 'cum laude' is unstated.
(8) LATE APPLICATION 2026/27 RANKING LIST not yet published as of 29 Ağustos 2026, so the full-year competition picture is incomplete; the 4 unfilled Early Bird EU places should roll into it.
(9) NO PER-APPLICANT PROVISIONAL-ADMISSION MARKERS could be read from the extracted ranking-list text, so the share of not-yet-graduated admits is unknown.
(10) PROVINCIAL STUDY-GRANT ELIGIBILITY IN YEAR 2 is unresolved: the grant requires uninterrupted residence in South Tyrol, which EMMA students leave precisely when the one-year clock matures. Grant amounts (commonly cited as EUR 1,680–6,960) could not be confirmed.
(11) THE 'AGRONOMIST AND FORESTER' PROFESSIONAL-QUALIFICATION CLAIM comes from the 2019/20 manifesto and is not repeated in current documents.
(12) THE DEGREE PARCHMENTS. Neither university states which two titles a graduate receives, or whether one document or two is issued. Innsbruck records the award as 'Master of Science (MSc)'; unibz as a LM-73 laurea magistrale. The cooperation agreement, which would settle this, is not public.
(13) VISA FINANCIAL THRESHOLDS (about EUR 800/month; EUR 7,954 for permit renewal) and the 20 hours/week work limit come from unibz general material and Italian national rules, not from the EMMA 2026/27 PDF.
(14) THE ITALIAN AND GERMAN EDITIONS of the admission-information PDF were not separately verified for divergence from the English text, and the unibz 'Study Plan' and 'Study course structure' widgets load dynamically and yielded no static content.
METHODOLOGICAL NOTE: no third-party aggregator (Mastersportal, educations.com, studium.at) was used for any figure reported as fact. Every unibz figure traces to a unibz.it page or unibz.it-hosted PDF downloaded and text-extracted on 29 Ağustos 2026. Partner-side facts (the double-degree confirmation, the 35-student cap, the Austrian tuition statement, the year-2 module structure, the 2014 launch) trace to uibk.ac.at pages. The Austrian ÖH/tuition figures noted as UNCERTAIN in point (2) are the one place where a third-party Austrian study portal is cited, and they are flagged precisely because they conflict with the partner university's own statement.

Call for applications link note: There is NO separate 'call for applications' or 'manifesto degli studi' published for the 2026/27 cycle. The role of the official call is played jointly by:
(1) the admission-information document, https://www.unibz.it/assets/CoursesPDF/master-in-environmental-management-of-mountain-areas_admission-information_en_GB.pdf (version-pinned on the programme page as ?v=1784820208), which carries the deadlines, quotas, entry requirements, scoring rule, documents and fees; and
(2) the SIGNED RANKING-LIST DECREE for 2026/27 Early Bird, which restates the admission criteria in full, carries the Admission Committee's signatures (President Prof. Roberto Tognetti; Members Prof. Enrico Tomelleri, Prof. Birgit Weinberger) and the 60-day appeal notice to the Bozen-Bolzano Administrative Court.
HISTORICAL CALL DOCUMENT, useful as a baseline for how the programme has changed: the 2019/20 Study Manifesto, https://www.unibz.it/assets/Documents/Study-Manifestos/2019/Manifesto-7 Haziran 2019-Master-EMMA-LM33-en.pdf (verified HTTP 200; note the 'LM33' in the filename is a unibz filing error — the document body says LM-73). unibz appears to have discontinued the per-programme Study Manifesto format after 2019 in favour of the admission-information PDF.
General applicant entry points: https://www.unibz.it/en/applicants/studying-at-unibz ; international applicants https://www.unibz.it/en/applicants/international/international-degree-seeking-applicants ; ranking lists index https://www.unibz.it/en/applicants/ranking-lists ; application portal https://aws.unibz.it/exup .
[uncertain] A Rector's decree formally opening the 2026/27 admission procedure, the inter-institutional cooperation agreement with the University of Innsbruck (which Innsbruck cites for the 35-student cap), and the programme's own study regulation were NOT locatable in English on unibz.it. The cooperation agreement in particular would answer the open questions on quotas, Austrian fees and year-2 transfer, and is worth requesting from the Faculty.
Tuition and fees link note: EUR 1,200 PER YEAR IN TOTAL, paid to unibz in two instalments, for BOTH years — including the year spent in Austria. Verbatim from the admission-information PDF: 'Fees amount to € 1200. 1st instalment (€ 600): includes the revenue stamp of € 16. 2nd instalment (€ 600): must be paid by March of the following year.' The brochure 'At a glance' states 'Tuition fees: ca. €1200 per year'.
CRITICAL DOUBLE-DEGREE POINT: the University of Innsbruck's own EMMA page states, verbatim, 'Tuition fees are to be paid at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano', and the German version says 'An der Freien Universität Bozen fallen Studiengebühren an'. So the fee for the Innsbruck year is nominally handled through unibz and the student does not pay Austrian tuition twice. [uncertain] BUT THIS IS NOT FULLY WATERTIGHT: Austrian public universities levy a mandatory ÖH (student union) contribution on everyone enrolled — currently about EUR 25 per semester — and charge non-EU degree students a standard tuition of EUR 726.72 per semester (EUR 363.36 for certain categories) unless exempt. Third-party Austrian study portals list exactly these figures against EMMA. Neither unibz nor Innsbruck states on the EMMA pages whether double-degree students are exempt from the Austrian tuition, whether the ÖH contribution is additionally payable, or under what legal basis. FOR A NON-EU (e.g. TURKISH) APPLICANT THIS IS A POTENTIAL EUR 1,453 PER YEAR DIFFERENCE and must be confirmed in writing with the degree course director before accepting a place.
The first instalment is also the payment that SECURES an admitted place (Early Bird 2026/27 deadline 5 Haziran 2026 noon; Late 11 Eylül 2026 noon).
unibz charges a FLAT FEE — it is NOT income-scaled (no ISEE-based brackets as at most Italian state universities), and non-EU students pay the same EUR 1,200 as EU students. Historical note: fees were EUR 1,347.50 in 2019/20, so they have gone DOWN.
CONSEQUENCES OF NON-PAYMENT: 'Delayed payment of the second instalment will result in a fine being levied. If you have not paid the tuition fees, you will be unable to take exams and will not be able to transfer to other universities or other study programmes.' And: 'If you drop out of a programme, interrupt your studies or are excluded from studies, you are not entitled to reimbursement of the fees.'
EXEMPTIONS: 'Students with a disability recognized under article 3, paragraph 1, of Law No 104/1992, or with a disability up to or exceeding 66%: the disability certificate, issued by the health authorities, must be handed in at the beginning of the academic year' and 'Foreign students who have been granted a scholarship from the Italian government'.
REFUND FOR GRANT HOLDERS: 'Students who benefit from a scholarship granted by the Autonomous Province of Bozen-Bolzano are entitled to receive a refund of the tuition fees.'
REFUND EXCEPTION FOR VISA FAILURE: non-EU applicants living abroad who pay but 'do not obtain the necessary documents for enrolment from the Italian authorities in their country' ARE entitled to a refund.
Fees pages: https://guide.unibz.it/en/study-career/general-information/fees/ and the programme's own admission-information PDF.
NOT INCLUDED: living costs, and for EMMA these are doubled in kind — the student must fund a relocation to Innsbruck and a second housing search after year 1. Both Bolzano and Innsbruck are expensive Alpine university cities with tight rental markets.

“PLACES — 'EU citizens and citizens given parity of treatment: Early Bird Application: 35; Late Application: 10. Non-EU citizens (living abroad): Early Bird Application: 8.' (admission-information PDF); 'Places available: 45 EU + 8 non-EU' (brochure At a glance and programme page).
DOUBLE DEGREE — 'This double degree programme focuses on sustainable landscape development as well as ecosystem and agro-ecosystem management in mountain areas.' (unibz programme page strapline); 'The course has an international character and allows students to obtain a "double degree".' (2019/20 Study Manifesto); 'The double degree Master's Programme in Environmental Management of Mountain Areas has an interdisciplinary focus and is offered in cooperation with the Faculty of Agricultural, Environmental and Food Sciences of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano.' (University of Innsbruck).
