Teaching is atelier-and-workshop based: students work in ateliers in groups of no more than 20 students supervised by 3 lecturers, and must complete compulsory safety training (Work Safety - Machinery Hazard - Chemical Risk) before attending the technical workshop courses. This is NOT the NOI Techpark campus (that is Engineering) and not Brixen-Bressanone or Bruneck-Brunico.

Restricted access (numero programmato) with a three-stage aptitude selection and a published merit ranking list. The instruments are: (1) a self-produced VIDEO (max 2 minutes) uploaded to the application portal — a prerequisite, not merely scored; (2) a PRACTICAL CREATIVE WORK carried out at home on a topic issued by e-mail about one week before the interview; (3) an ONLINE INTERVIEW of 10-15 minutes with a commission of faculty lecturers. There is NO written entrance exam, no TOLC, no CENT-S, no SAT and no conventional portfolio submission. A prior language-eligibility gate (B2 in two of the three teaching languages) removes applicants before scoring. Separate ranking lists are drawn up for (a) EU citizens and citizens given parity of treatment and (b) non-EU citizens living abroad, and separately for the Major in Design and the Major in Art.

Trilingual (Italian / German / English). The official teaching languages are German, Italian and English; the programme page 'At a glance' box states 'Courses will be taught in: Italian, German and English (trilingual)'. Unlike the engineering bachelors, this programme does NOT have an all-English first semester. Based on the published 2026/27 course offering: the lecture/theory block of year 1 semester 1 is largely English (Project Warm-up DES 12 CP EN, Descriptive Geometry DES 6 CP EN, History of Design 6 CP EN, History of Contemporary Art 1 6 CP EN, Digital Design: 3D CAD Advanced 6 CP EN, Interaction and Communication Design 6 CP EN, plus 2 CP seminars in EN and Foreign Language - English: Academic Skills 3 CP EN). However the four 19-CP 'Projects' — 76 CP, roughly 42% of the 180 ECTS and the pedagogical core of the degree — run as atelier groups in mixed language combinations, and several groups are German/Italian only: Project Product Design 1.a is tagged IT/DE, Project Visual Communication 1.c is DE/IT, Project Visual Communication 2.d is DE/IT; others are IT/EN, IT/EN/DE or DE/IT/EN. Several compulsory or elective courses are single-language non-English: German-only — Design Theory 5 CP, Typography and Graphics 6 CP, Photography 6 CP, Video and Post-Production 6 CP, History of Contemporary Art 2 5 CP; Italian-only — Interior and Exhibit Design 1 6 CP, History and Criticism of Audiovisual Media 6 CP. One 3 CP compulsory course must be chosen between 'Foreign Language DES-ART 1 Italiano' (IT) and 'Foreign Language DES-ART 2 Deutsch' (DE). Approximate 2026/27 course counts by tag: ~19 courses EN, ~8 IT, ~8 DE, plus the multilingual project groups. — the per-language ECTS weighting is reconstructed from the 2026/27 course-offering listing (which shows only what is offered that year and assigns multiple language tags to project groups) rather than from an official language-split statement; 'Drawing 3D CAD' 8 CP carries no published language tag.

TWO sessions only for EU citizens and citizens given parity of treatment — this major has no third session (unibz publishes DD/MM/YYYY; ISO given below). Early Bird Application: 02/03/2026 - 28/04/2026 by noon local time = 2 Mart 2026 to 28 Nisan 2026, with the video upload due by the same deadline, 28/04/2026 noon. Late Application (EU citizens only): 28/05/2026 - 02/07/2026 by noon local time = 28 Mayıs 2026 to 2 Temmuz 2026, video upload by 02/07/2026 noon. NOTE the Late window closes SIX DAYS EARLIER than the engineering/economics bachelors' 08/07/2026 — it is programme-specific. There is NO Additional Application Session for the Major in Design in 2026/27: the programme's own admission document lists only two sessions, and the university's Additional Application Session page lists only the Bachelor in Design and Art - Major in Art and the Master in Critical Creative Practices for the Faculty of Design and Art. ONE window only for non-EU citizens living outside Italy: the Early Bird Application, 02/03/2026 - 28/04/2026 by noon local time = 2 Mart 2026 to 28 Nisan 2026, with the video uploaded to the application portal by 28/04/2026 noon, the online interview on 15/05/2026 and the ranking list by 27/05/2026. 'Only one application period is offered. After the deadline it is not possible to apply anymore.' Non-EU applicants living abroad are NOT eligible for the Late Application, pay a non-refundable €50 application fee, are ranked on a separate list against a separate 2-place quota, and must additionally pre-enrol on the Universitaly portal (one programme only) to obtain the study visa. In 2026/27 all 5 non-EU applicants to the Major in Design were excluded at the language gate, so both non-EU places went unused.

Required qualification (one of): (a) a secondary school leaving certificate of the Italian system; or (b) an equivalent qualification obtained abroad. A foreign school-leaving certificate counts as equivalent only if obtained after 12 years of education AND the applicant attended at least the last two years in that foreign school system (unibz's own example: an Irish Leaving Certificate obtained after attending only one year is not enough). The Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research imposes additional specific requirements on holders of certain certificates — American high school diplomas, British and Greek certificates are named explicitly — and such applicants are told to contact apply@unibz.it (Advisory Service). Beyond the title, the applicant must fulfil the language requirements (B2 + B2), which are eliminatory. There is NO minimum school grade, NO subject prerequisite, NO mathematics requirement and NO portfolio-of-prior-study requirement: unlike the engineering and economics bachelors, school marks play no part in the score — the 100 points come entirely from the video, the practical creative work and the interview. No ECTS/SSD credit requirements apply (bachelor level, so the 2024 SSD recoding such as INFO-01/A is irrelevant here). National rule: simultaneous enrolment in a maximum of 2 study programmes is permitted, provided the two do not belong to the same class (explicitly 'e.g., L-4/L-4') and differ in at least 2/3 of course contents.

The official teaching languages are German, Italian and English, and the requirement is ELIMINATORY: 'The official teaching languages are German, Italian and English. Therefore, the following language requirements apply, otherwise you will be excluded from the admission procedure.' Entry: B2 in the 1st language AND B2 in the 2nd language; no level required in the 3rd. Exit (to graduate): C1 / C1 / B2, CEFR. Positions are defined by the candidate's own proficiency, not by the language: the 1st language is the one in which the candidate is strongest (B2 or C1), the 3rd the weakest, possibly absolute beginner. Certification is MANDATORY for the 1st and 2nd language and recommended (from B1 upwards) for the 3rd, submitted in the application portal under 'upload language certificates' and/or 'enrol for language exams' after creating an application. A certificate awarded by an Italian public institution is submitted as a self-declaration; one awarded by a foreign public institution requires an uploaded scanned copy of the original. Programme-specific softening: 'A B1 level in the third language is the minimum requirement for taking curricular examinations in that specific language. In the first year of study, it is possible to sit exams relating to project-based activities before having achieved a B1 level in the third language' — i.e. the 19-CP atelier projects, which are the bulk of year 1, are exempt from the B1 gate during the first year; the Study Guide phrases the same rule as B1 being needed for theoretical courses only in year 1 and for all exams from year 2. Admitted students who cannot certify the third language sit a placement test (details by e-mail) and are assigned a learning path towards B2. Absolute beginners or anyone below B2 may attend a three-week intensive course in the September pre-semester session; A1 beginner courses are offered EXCLUSIVELY in that September session and no longer during the academic year, so absolute beginners must start there. During semesters there are extensive courses (4 h/week), between semesters intensive courses (6 h/day). All Language Centre courses are free of charge and target B1 in the third language by the end of year 1 and B2 by the end of year 2.

No written or standardised entrance examination of any kind. The list of instruments actually used is: (1) Video, produced independently at home, uploaded to the application portal by the application deadline — max 2 minutes, max 150 MB, formats .mov/.mp4/.mpg/.avi/.wmv, file name surname_name.format; failure to upload by the deadline causes exclusion from the admission procedure. (2) Practical creative work, carried out entirely by the candidate at home; the topic and technical indications (size of models, materials, format, etc.) are e-mailed approximately one week before the interview, and the complete documentation must be sent by the modalities communicated with the topic — sending documentation by post is never allowed. (3) Online interview, 10-15 minutes, before a commission of faculty lecturers. The only examinations connected with admission are the unibz Language Centre LANGUAGE exams, and only for candidates who choose that proof route: Early Bird — 16/03/2026 (registration 02-09/03/2026) and 16-17 and 20-21/04/2026 (registration 24/03-08/04/2026); Late — 22-26/06/2026 (registration 28/05-15/06/2026). Only B2-level exams can be registered for. After admission there is also a non-selective third-language placement test for students who could not certify their third language.

Then, after the deadline, the documentation of the PRACTICAL CREATIVE WORK, submitted by the modalities communicated by e-mail with the topic — never by post. NOTE: there is no motivation letter, no CV upload, no reference letters and NO study-career Excel template (that structured upload is a master-level requirement). Once the application has been sent it cannot be modified, and filled-in forms which have not been sent correctly are not taken into consideration. Mendacious declarations are criminally prosecuted and result in automatic exclusion from the ranking list. At enrolment, holders of a foreign secondary school qualification must additionally upload the secondary school diploma, an official translation into Italian (not needed for diplomas issued in German or English), and the ARDI/CIMEA statements described under credential_recognition. Students transferring from another Italian university must submit a copy of the transfer application to the Student Office at the beginning of the academic year. Non-EU students must hand in the residence permit to the Student Office in person or by e-mail once obtained.

(3) Teaching-language weighting is reconstructed from the 2026/27 course-offering listing, where the four 19-CP project groups carry multiple language tags (IT/DE, IT/EN, DE/IT, IT/DE/EN) reflecting parallel atelier groups rather than a single delivery language, and 'Drawing 3D CAD' (8 CP) carries no language tag at all; per-language ECTS totals are therefore indicative, not official. What is solid is that this programme has no all-English semester and that several compulsory courses and project groups are German-only or Italian-only. (4) The 'approximately one week before the interview' send date for the creative-work topic is unibz's own wording; the derived dates (around 08/05/2026 and 10/07/2026) are estimates. (5) Scholarship amounts are not confirmed: the €1,680-€6,960 range and any merit-average threshold do not appear on any page verified for this programme; the provincial call sets amounts and deadlines annually. (6) 'Not a new programme' is inferred from the 2018-onwards project archive and the parallel 2022/2025 cohort study plans; unibz publishes no first-intake year. (7) No separate English call/manifesto exists; the faculty regulations portal is Italian/German only, so an Italian-language Rector's decree opening the procedure may exist that was not reviewed.
