Bozen-Bolzano main campus, Faculty of Design and Art, Universitätsplatz 1 / piazza Università 1, 39100 Bozen-Bolzano, Italy. Teaching is studio-and-workshop based in the faculty building, with four dedicated studios: one devoted to SPACE (sculpture and installations), one to the VISUAL ARTS / IMAGE (photography, videos and film), one to INTERACT (performative arts / new media) and one to EXHIBIT (visual culture / curatorship). Work groups are small and supervised by three lecturers. Students must complete compulsory safety training (Work Safety - Machinery Hazard - Chemical Risk) before attending the technical workshop courses. This is NOT the NOI Techpark campus (Engineering), nor Brixen-Bressanone, Bruneck-Brunico, Trento or Innsbruck.

Restricted access (numero programmato) with a three-stage aptitude selection and a published merit ranking list. The instruments are: (1) a self-produced VIDEO (max 2 minutes) uploaded to the application portal — a prerequisite, not merely a scored item; (2) a PRACTICAL CREATIVE WORK carried out at home on a topic issued by e-mail about one week before the interview; (3) an ONLINE INTERVIEW of about 10-15 minutes before a commission composed of lecturers of the faculty. There is NO written entrance exam, no TOLC, no CENT-S, no SAT and no conventional portfolio submission. A prior language-eligibility gate (B2 in two of the three teaching languages) removes applicants before scoring. Separate ranking lists are drawn up for (a) EU citizens and citizens given parity of treatment and (b) non-EU citizens living abroad, and separately for the Curriculum in Arte and the Curriculum in Design within a single signed decree.

Trilingual (Italian / German / English). The brochure 'At a glance' box states 'Courses will be taught in: Italian, German and English (trilingual)'. There is NO all-English semester. Based on the published 2026/27 course offering, the theory/lecture block of the first year is largely English — Project Warm-up ART 12 CP EN, Descriptive Geometry ART 6 CP EN, Artistic Production 6 CP EN, Artistic Practices 6 CP EN, History of Contemporary Art 1 6 CP EN, Interaction and Communication Design 6 CP EN, Sociology of Social Change 8 CP EN, Cultural Anthropology 8 CP EN, History of Design 6 CP EN, four 2 CP seminars EN, Foreign Language - English: Academic Skills 3 CP EN. But the Art major carries MORE hard-locked non-English coursework than the sibling Major in Design. Compulsory German-only courses in the Art study plan: Artistic Drawing 2D 8 CP, Drawing and Storytelling 6 CP, History of Contemporary Art 2 5 CP = 19 CP that cannot be taken in English. In addition, the compulsory choice group {Video and Post-Production 6 CP DE, Photography 6 CP DE, History and Criticism of Audiovisual Media 6 CP IT} contains NO English option at all, adding a further 6 CP — so at least 25 CP of compulsory credit is non-English. Other German-only courses in the offering: Typography and Graphics 6 CP DE, Design Theory 5 CP DE. The four 19-CP STUDIOS (76 CP, ~42% of the 180 ECTS and the pedagogical core) run as parallel atelier groups with mixed language tags in 2026/27: Studio A1 SPACE = IT/DE (no English group), Studio B2 INTERACT = DE/IT (no English group), Studio C1 IMAGE = DE/IT/EN, Studio C2 IMAGE = IT/EN, Studio D2 EXHIBIT = IT/EN/DE. — the per-language ECTS weighting is reconstructed from the 2026/27 course-offering listing (which shows only what is offered that year and assigns multiple language tags to studio groups reflecting parallel groups rather than one delivery language), not from an official language-split statement; language tags can differ from year to year.

THREE sessions for EU citizens and citizens given parity of treatment in 2026/27 — one more than the Major in Design (unibz publishes DD/MM/YYYY; ISO given below). (1) Early Bird Application: 02/03/2026 - 28/04/2026 by noon local time = 2 Mart 2026 to 28 Nisan 2026, with the video upload due by the same deadline, 28/04/2026 noon. (2) Late Application (EU citizens only): 28/05/2026 - 02/07/2026 by noon local time = 28 Mayıs 2026 to 2 Temmuz 2026, video upload by 02/07/2026 noon. NOTE the Late window closes SIX DAYS EARLIER than the engineering/economics bachelors' 08/07/2026 — it is programme-specific. (3) ADDITIONAL APPLICATION SESSION (EU citizens only): 18/08/2026 - 04/09/2026 by noon local time = 18 Ağustos 2026 to 4 Eylül 2026, video upload by 04/09/2026 noon. This third window exists because both regular sessions underfilled (17 admitted against 28 EU places) and, as of the verification date 29 Ağustos 2026, it is OPEN with six days remaining — the Major in Art is one of only two Faculty of Design and Art programmes in the additional session (the other being the Master in Critical Creative Practices), and the sibling Major in Design is NOT in it. EU applicants may apply for more than one study programme, and an applicant excluded in the first session may apply again in the second (in 2026/27 at least two candidates excluded or heavily penalised in Early Bird were admitted in the Late session).

ONE window only for non-EU citizens living outside Italy: the Early Bird Application, 02/03/2026 - 28/04/2026 by noon local time = 2 Mart 2026 to 28 Nisan 2026, with the video uploaded to the application portal by 28/04/2026 noon, the online interview on 15/05/2026 and the ranking list by 27/05/2026. 'Only one application period is offered. After the deadline it is not possible to apply anymore.' Non-EU applicants living abroad are NOT eligible for the Late Application and NOT eligible for the Additional Application Session (both are explicitly labelled 'only for EU citizens'), pay a non-refundable €50 application fee, are ranked on a separate list against a separate 2-place quota, and must additionally pre-enrol on the Universitaly portal (one programme only) to obtain the study visa. In 2026/27 the Early Bird ranking decree contained NO non-EU section for the Curriculum in Arte at all — not even an exclusion list — so both non-EU places went unused, and for a non-EU applicant living abroad the 2026/27 cycle is now definitively closed; the next opportunity is the 2027/28 Early Bird window, expected around March-April 2027.

Required qualification (one of): (a) a secondary school leaving certificate of the Italian system; or (b) an equivalent qualification obtained abroad. A foreign school-leaving certificate counts as equivalent only if obtained after 12 years of education AND the applicant attended at least the last two years in that foreign school system (unibz's own example: an Irish Leaving Certificate obtained after attending only one year is not enough). The Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research imposes additional specific requirements on holders of certain certificates — American high school diplomas, British and Greek certificates are named explicitly — and such applicants are told to contact apply@unibz.it (Advisory Service). Beyond the title, the applicant must fulfil the language requirements (B2 + B2), which are eliminatory. There is NO minimum school grade, NO subject prerequisite, NO mathematics requirement, no prior art-school requirement and no portfolio-of-prior-study requirement: unlike the engineering and economics bachelors, school marks play no part in the score — the 100 points come entirely from the video, the practical creative work and the interview. No ECTS/SSD credit requirements apply (bachelor level, so the 2024 SSD recoding such as INFO-01/A is irrelevant here). National rule: simultaneous enrolment in a maximum of 2 study programmes is permitted, provided the two do not belong to the same class (explicitly 'e.g., L-4/L-4') and differ in at least 2/3 of course contents — which rules out holding places on both the Art and the Design major of this same L-4 degree.

The official teaching languages are German, Italian and English, and the requirement is ELIMINATORY: 'The official teaching languages are German, Italian and English. Therefore, the following language requirements apply, otherwise you will be excluded from the admission procedure.' Entry: B2 in the 1st language AND B2 in the 2nd language; no level required in the 3rd. Exit (to graduate): C1 / C1 / B2, CEFR. Positions are defined by the candidate's own proficiency, not by the language: 'Your first language is the language in which you have the highest level of proficiency (B2 or C1). Your third language is instead the language in which you are weaker (or in which you are an absolute beginner).' Certification is MANDATORY for the 1st and 2nd language and recommended (from B1 upwards) for the 3rd, submitted in the application portal under 'upload language certificates' and/or 'enrol for language exams' after creating an application in 'create/manage applications'. A certificate awarded by an Italian public institution is submitted as a self-declaration; one awarded by a foreign public institution requires an uploaded scanned copy of the original. Programme-specific softening: 'A B1 level in the third language is the minimum requirement for taking curricular examinations in that specific language. In the first year of study, it is possible to sit exams relating to project-based activities before having achieved a B1 level in the third language' — i.e. the 19-CP studio projects and practical courses (drawing, studio, typography) are exempt from the B1 gate during year 1, while theoretical courses are not; from year 2 onwards B1 in the language of the course is required for all exams. Admitted students who cannot certify the third language sit a placement test (details by e-mail) and are assigned a learning path towards B2. Absolute beginners or anyone below B2 may attend a three-week intensive course in the September pre-semester session; A1 beginner courses are offered EXCLUSIVELY in that September session and no longer during the academic year, so absolute beginners must start there. During semesters there are extensive courses (4 h/week), between semesters intensive courses (6 h/day). All Language Centre courses are free of charge and target B1 in the third language by the end of year 1 and B2 by the end of year 2.

No written or standardised entrance examination of any kind. The list of instruments actually used is: (1) VIDEO, produced independently at home, uploaded to the application portal by the application deadline — max 2 minutes, max 150 MB, formats .mov/.mp4/.mpg/.avi/.wmv, file name surname_name.format; failure to upload by the deadline causes exclusion from the admission procedure. (2) PRACTICAL CREATIVE WORK, carried out entirely by the candidate at home; the topic and technical indications (size of models, materials, format, etc.) are e-mailed approximately one week before the interview, and the complete documentation must be sent by the modalities communicated with the topic — sending documentation by post is never allowed. (3) ONLINE INTERVIEW, about 10-15 minutes, before a commission of faculty lecturers. The only examinations connected with admission are the unibz Language Centre LANGUAGE exams, and only for candidates who choose that proof route: Early Bird — 16/03/2026 (registration 02-09/03/2026) and 16-17 and 20-21/04/2026 (registration 24/03-08/04/2026); Late — 22-26/06/2026 (registration 28/05-15/06/2026). NOTE: the Additional Application Session block publishes NO language exam dates, so that route appears unavailable for applicants in the currently open window. Only B2-level exams can be registered for. After admission there is also a non-selective third-language placement test for students who could not certify their third language.

Then, after the deadline, the documentation of the PRACTICAL CREATIVE WORK, submitted by the modalities communicated by e-mail together with the topic — never by post. NOTE: there is no motivation letter, no CV upload, no reference letters and NO study-career Excel template (that structured upload is a master-level requirement). Once the application has been sent it cannot be modified, and 'Filled-in forms which have not been sent correctly will not be taken into consideration.' Mendacious declarations are criminally prosecuted and result in automatic exclusion from the ranking list. At enrolment, holders of a foreign secondary school qualification must additionally upload the secondary school diploma, an official translation into Italian (not necessary for diplomas issued in German or English), and the ARDI/CIMEA statements described under credential_recognition. Students transferring from another Italian university must submit a copy of the transfer application to the Student Office at the beginning of the academic year. Non-EU students must hand in the residence permit to the Student Office personally or by e-mail once obtained.

(1) LIVE STATUS — this is the single most time-sensitive point in the record: unlike almost every other unibz programme, the Major in Art is STILL OPEN at the verification date. The Additional Application Session runs 18/08 - 04/09/2026 by noon local time, i.e. six days remained when this record was written; it is EU-citizens-and-equivalent only, its interview is 16/09/2026 and its ranking list is due 18/09/2026. Anyone reading this record after 04/09/2026 must treat the 2026/27 cycle as closed. (2) The Additional Application Session block publishes NO unibz Language Centre exam dates, unlike the Early Bird and Late blocks. The natural reading is that the Language Centre exam proof route is unavailable in that window and applicants must already hold a recognised certificate or qualify through their schooling — but unibz does not say this explicitly, so it is an inference and should be confirmed with apply@unibz.it. (3) No number of available places is published for the Additional Application Session. The ~11 EU places quoted here is arithmetic (28 EU quota minus 7 + 10 admitted) and may not match what the Faculty actually releases. (4) Deadline divergence to watch: the Late Application for this programme closes 02/07/2026, six days earlier than the 08/07/2026 used by the engineering and economics bachelors, and its ranking list is published by 23/07/2026 rather than 30/07/2026. Do not copy generic unibz dates onto this programme. (5) Timing conflict worth flagging to applicants: the September intensive language courses run 01-18/09/2026, but the Additional Session ranking list is only published by 18/09/2026 — so a candidate admitted through the third session cannot attend that year's intensive language course, which matters given how much German-only compulsory coursework this major carries. (6) Teaching-language weighting is reconstructed from the 2026/27 course-offering listing, where the four 19-CP studio groups carry multiple language tags (IT/DE, DE/IT, DE/IT/EN, IT/EN, IT/EN/DE) reflecting parallel groups rather than a single delivery language; per-language ECTS totals are indicative, not official, and tags may change year to year. What is solid is that this major has no all-English semester, that at least 25 CP of compulsory credit cannot be taken in English, and that in 2026/27 two of the four studios ran with no English group. (7) The claim that an English-reliant student cannot assemble four studio instances from English groups alone follows from the 2026/27 tags combined with the rule that Studio A and Studio D can each be taken only once — it is an inference from two published sources, not a unibz statement.
