Kampüs

Trento (multi-site). Official/administrative seat: Department of Sociology and Social Research, Via Verdi 26, 38122 Trento ('Sociology Building', the LOCATION shown on the programme card). Because the degree is interdepartmental, teaching activities are also delivered at the Fabio Ferrari Science and Technology Hub (Polo Ferrari), Via Sommarive 5, 38123 Povo (Trento); at the Department of Economics and Management, Via Inama 5, Trento; and at the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Science in Rovereto, Corso Bettini 84 (some elective courses, e.g. neuroimaging-related ones, are taught in Rovereto). Lessons take place in person only.

Derece Sınıfı

LM-DATA (Classe delle lauree magistrali in Data science, established by Italian Ministerial Decree D.M. 1649 of 19 December 2023). Internal UniTrento programme code: 0625H.

Kabul Tipi

Restricted access / numero programmato ('ACCESS: Programmed'). Admission is by a public selection based on qualifications ('selezione pubblica per titoli') - there is NO TOLC, no SAT and no written entrance exam. Candidates are ranked on a documentary evaluation (max 100 points) of their academic curriculum, statement of purpose and the coherence of previous studies with the programme; an interview (in person or by video conference) may be requested only if the submitted documents do not allow the committee to evaluate the application adequately. Two separate ranking lists are produced, one for Europeans and Equivalents and one for non-Europeans. Two application calls per year (a third one for Europeans and Equivalents is possible at the committee's discretion if places remain).

Resmî Eğitim Dili

English. Case (1) in the classification: the programme is delivered entirely in English. It is not a track/percorso of an Italian-language degree and it has no Italian-language twin - both of its curricula (A and B) are taught in English. The official programme regulations state 'La lingua ufficiale di insegnamento del corso di studio e l'inglese' ('The official teaching language of the study programme is English'), and the final thesis must be written and discussed in English. The corsi.unitn.it programme card shows 'LANGUAGE: English' (single value, unlike dual-track UniTrento programmes which show 'English Italian'). No Italian-language proficiency is required for admission or during the studies.

Kabul koşulları

Akademik geçmiş

1) QUALIFICATION: a Bachelor's degree or higher awarded in Italy, or a foreign qualification recognised as equivalent by the selection committee under the programme regulations. Final-year undergraduates may apply provided they graduate by 30 June 2026 (non-Europeans) or by 31 October 2026 (Europeans and Equivalents, and non-Europeans graduating in Italy with a valid study residence permit). 2) CURRICULAR CREDIT REQUIREMENTS (expressed in Italian SSD disciplinary sectors; for foreign qualifications the committee assesses equivalence of course contents): at least 6 ECTS in INF*/ING-INF* (Computer Science, Computer Engineering); at least 6 ECTS in SPS*/SECS-P*/M-PSI*/IUS* (Social Sciences, Economics, Psychology, Law); at least 6 ECTS in MAT*/SECS-S* (Mathematics, Statistics); plus at least a further 24 ECTS in the same sectors - i.e. a minimum of 42 ECTS in total across those areas. Candidates missing credits at the application deadline may still apply provided they obtain them by 5 August 2026; missing credits can be gained through exams, seminars, or the UniTrento Data Science Summer School. Command of the fundamentals of computer science and of probability/statistics is verified through the syllabi of the exams taken. 3) PERSONAL PREPARATION: good analytical skills in social sciences and information science, good ability to handle methodological problems and to read research data; only candidates meeting the curricular requirements are assessed on personal preparation. 4) SEATS a.y. 2026/2027: 56 places in total, including a reserved quota of 8 places for non-EU citizens living abroad. First call: 20 places for Europeans and Equivalents + 8 places for non-Europeans. Second call: 28 places for Europeans and Equivalents. Unassigned non-EU reserved places are released to Europeans and Equivalents. Places freed by withdrawals after the first call are not reassigned within the same ranking list but are carried over to the second call. 5) NO fixed GPA threshold is published - the previous GPA/final mark is scored within the 0-60 'Curriculum studiorum' criterion; the overall eligibility threshold is 50/100. 6) CURRICULUM ASSIGNMENT: the programme has two curricula and the admissions committee decides, on the basis of the candidate's bachelor's degree discipline and personal preparation, which of the two the student must compulsorily follow - Curriculum A is aimed at graduates in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or Engineering, Curriculum B at graduates in Sociology, Economics or Psychology. Both are 120 CFU over 2 years and include mandatory courses, electives, labs, free-choice credits, a 9 CFU internship and an 18 CFU thesis. 7) TRANSFER / SECOND-YEAR ENTRY: a transfer application is accepted only on positive evaluation by the selection committee; admission directly to the second year requires a credit-transfer pre-evaluation of at least 50 recognisable credits. 8) SCHOLARSHIPS (non-Europeans): awarded to top-ranked non-European candidates scoring at least 90/100; the number of scholarships is announced together with the ranking list; holders are exempt from tuition fees, the grant is paid only after arrival in Italy, and it is not compatible with MAECI, Universita a colori-Unicolor or Invest your Talent in Italy scholarships.

Dil yeterliliği
  • ENGLISH ONLY - no Italian language requirement at any stage. ADMISSION: good knowledge of English, at least level B2 of the CEFR, evidenced in any one of the following ways: (a) an English language qualification awarded by an internationally recognised entity (see the CLA list of accepted certificates at https://www.cla.unitn.it/en/node/780, point 2)
  • (b) an English language qualification awarded by a certifying body or a university institute (self-certification under arts. 46-47 of D.P.R. 445/2000 is required within the online application when the assessing body is an Italian public entity)
  • (c) a certificate stating that the Bachelor's or Master's degree was officially taught in English
Sınav / değerlendirme
  • No entrance exam. Selection is entirely on documents (valutazione per titoli), scored out of 100 by an admissions committee of at least three members appointed by Rectoral Decree: (a) Curriculum studiorum - GPA or final mark, performance and results in previous studies, post-graduate courses, extra-academic activities, competencies in programming and informatics: 0-60 points
  • (b) Statement of purpose in English (300-600 words, word count required at the end): 0-20 points
  • (c) Coherence between previous studies and the objectives of the Master's Degree in Data Science: 0-20 points. Candidates scoring 50/100 or more are considered suitable. Tie-break: youngest candidate first, then higher score on criterion (b), then (a), then (c). An interview (in person or via video conference) may be requested if the application documents are insufficient for evaluation. Separate optional test: candidates who cannot certify English B2 by the application deadline may sit the English test at the UniTrento Language Centre (CLA) - written part in person in Trento, speaking part online - with five sessions in 2026 (written 27 April, 25 May, 6 July, 2 September, 12 October; speaking 8 May, 5 June, 17 July, 11 September, 23 October).

Hazırlanacak belgeler

    • Uploaded within the online application (an official translation is required for any document not in Italian or English; illegible documents are not considered and incomplete applications are excluded): 1) copy of a valid passport (personal-data pages only) or identity card - not needed for candidates logging in with an Italian digital identity
    • 2) copy of the Bachelor's degree certificate, or a registration certificate stating the expected graduation date (students of Italian universities upload a self-declaration under arts. 46-47 D.P.R. 445/2000)
    • 3) transcript of records listing all courses, exams, disciplinary sectors (SSD - only if the degree is from an Italian university), marks obtained, the weighted average mark and the minimum-to-maximum range of marks (the mark range only for degrees obtained outside Italy); students of Italian universities use the self-declaration template provided

  • 1) PROGRAMME EXISTENCE - CONFIRMED. The task note flagged that this programme might not exist. It does: the Master's Degree in Data Science is an active, accredited UniTrento programme with a dedicated 2026/2027 admission call published on 17 December 2025 (binding Italian version plus English courtesy translation), its own programme regulations issued with Rectoral Decree n. 863 of 23 July 2024, its own class code LM-DATA and internal code 0625H, and a full 2026/27 course catalogue for both curricula. It is 100% English-taught. It should NOT be removed from the list. 2) SOURCE ACCESS. corsi.unitn.it returns HTTP 405 and offertaformativa.unitn.it returns HTTP 503 to direct automated requests (WAF/Cloudflare / maintenance redirect). All corsi.unitn.it content above, including both admission-call PDFs and the 48-page programme regulations PDF, was retrieved through a plain-text rendering proxy of the same official URLs and cross-checked between the Italian binding call, the English courtesy translation, and the two admission webpages. www.unitn.it (tuition-fee pages) was retrieved the same way. 3) TYPO IN THE ENGLISH COURTESY TRANSLATION. Art. 1 of the English PDF reads 'Entry is restricted to 56 places; this figure includes 81 places reserved for non-EU nationals living abroad', which is internally impossible. The binding Italian version says '8 posti riservati' (8 places) - the '1' is the superscript of footnote 1 running into the number in the English rendering. The corsi.unitn.it webpages independently confirm 8 non-EU seats + 48 EU seats = 56. Use 56 / 48 / 8. 4) TYPO ON THE EU ADMISSION WEBPAGE. The Europeans and Equivalents page prints 'Rankings by April 30 2016' and 'Rankings by June 30 2016'; the correct years are 2026 (as in both versions of the call). 5) DUPLICATE URL. https://corsi.unitn.it/en/data-science/enrollment/admission-and-enrollment serves exactly the same content as the non-Europeans page - the canonical menu entries are /enrollment/admission-non-europeans and /enrollment/admission-europeans-and-equivalents. There is no /en/data-science/contacts page (404); the contacts page is /en/data-science/program/contacts. 6) THIRD CALL. The call allows a third selection for Europeans and Equivalents if places remain after the second call. As of 31 August 2026 no third call had been published on the programme's admission pages (the EU page, last updated 30 June 2026, lists only two calls). Applicants should re-check the programme page. 7) TRANSFER-DEADLINE DISCREPANCY. The English translation of the transfer article says admission to the second year requires at least 50 recognised credits without a date, while the Italian binding version specifies the 50 credits must have been earned 'entro il 30 settembre 2026'. The 15 April 2026 deadline (form to datascience@unitn.it) and the 15 May 2026 reply date are identical in both versions. 8) MULTI-CAMPUS. Although the programme card gives a single LOCATION ('Sociology Building', Via Verdi 26, Trento), the programme regulations list four teaching sites across Trento, Povo and Rovereto; some second-year electives (e.g. neuroimaging courses) are physically taught in Rovereto, roughly 25 km from Trento. Students should not assume all teaching is on one campus. 9) SYLLABI-EXEMPTION WORDING. The Italian call exempts holders of a degree in the Italian class L-8 (Ingegneria dell'informazione) from uploading INF*/ING-INF* syllabi; the English webpage renders this as 'not required for students graduated in Computer Science'. The binding wording is the L-8 class, so Computer Science graduates from outside Italy should upload the syllabi to be safe. 10) NO PUBLISHED IELTS/TOEFL SCORE. The requirement is stated only as CEFR B2 with five alternative forms of evidence; the numeric equivalences are in the CLA list of accepted certificates (https://www.cla.unitn.it/en/node/780), which is maintained separately from the call. 11) NUMBER OF NON-EU SCHOLARSHIPS is not published in advance - it is announced together with the ranking list. 12) NO ITALIAN REQUIREMENT. Unlike some UniTrento English-taught tracks (e.g. the Computer Science bachelor), this Master imposes no Italian-language test at any stage; the only in-course language obligation is the English seminar / C1 / C2 alternative.
