• Common requirements for both curricula: a bachelor's degree of at least 3 years in Biology, Biotechnology, or related life science programmes awarded in Italy or abroad, plus English at B2 level. Applicants with bachelor's degrees in disciplines different from Biology or Biotechnology must satisfy curriculum-specific minimum credits. For MLS, they need 57 ECTS or equivalent distributed across Biology, Mathematics/Physics/Bioengineering, Chemistry, and other suitable biology-related courses. For MDB, they need 30 ECTS or equivalent across Biology, Mathematics/Physics/Bioengineering, and Chemistry. Even when applicants meet the minimum credits, eligibility is not automatic because the committee evaluates the suitability of the bachelor's degree after formal application.
• Foreign title pre-check: Applicants with a non-Italian qualification apply through apply.unipv.eu. The University of Pavia Admission Office evaluates the documentation and communicates the official admission response. The course admissions page states that entry qualification documents are accepted in English, French, Italian, or Spanish; if the transcript is not in English, official translations and verified copies of the original are required. The central master's application page also requires identity document plus bachelor's diploma issued in English, Spanish, or French, or officially translated into Italian.

Selection criteria: The Evaluation Committee first checks curricular suitability. The oral assessment tests basic concepts in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology; for MDB applicants, the committee also evaluates knowledge of bioinformatic tools or programming and investigates motivation. The possible outcomes are unconditional admission, admission with a list of exams to make up any credit deficits, or non-admission due to insufficient knowledge of basic Biology concepts. For non-Italian-university applicants, the admissions portal also requires two reference letters and a motivation letter as part of the file reviewed.
