For the Italian/EU/equated open-access route, applicants need an Italian degree in L-8 Information Engineering or L-9 Industrial Engineering (or the corresponding former class/equivalent qualification), or another foreign qualification recognized as suitable. They must have at least 24 CFU in the listed mathematics/physics sectors (MAT/01–MAT/09, FIS/01, FIS/02, FIS/03 or FIS/07) and at least 21 CFU in the listed information/industrial engineering and computer-science sectors (ING-INF/01–ING-INF/05, INF/01 or ING-IND/31). For the 2026/27 non-EU-abroad selection, applicants need a foreign bachelor's or higher degree following at least three years of study and suitable for master's entry in the awarding country, plus adequate basic-science and programme-specific preparation.

Good written and spoken English at CEFR B2 or higher. For the 2026/27 non-EU-abroad selection this must be demonstrated by an accepted certificate or exemption evidence. In the Italian/EU/equated route, applicants without certification have their English assessed during the individual interview and must demonstrate at least B2.

Curriculum review is the standard preparation check. For the Italian/EU/equated 2026/27 route, applicants whom the board considers to need an additional assessment are invited to an individual interview on 14 September 2026 at 10:00 in room P7, DIEEI, Building 3, Viale A. Doria 6, Catania; videoconference could be requested by 13 September. The interview covers analog electronics, fundamentals of computer science, and telecommunications fundamentals, and also checks B2 English for candidates without certification. For the non-EU-abroad selection, qualifications are scored out of 100: academic record up to 50, relevance of prior study/experience up to 40, reference letter up to 5 and motivation up to 5; an online interview/test may be required, and 50/100 is the suitability threshold.

• • Non-EU-abroad selection: passport personal-data pages; bachelor's degree certificate or enrolment certificate stating the expected graduation date; official Italian/English translation where needed; transcript listing courses, examinations, grades, grading range and preferably GPA; official syllabi on university letterhead or bearing the university stamp; reference letter, preferably from a university lecturer
  • Europass-format CV in English
  • English certificate or exemption evidence; statement of purpose in English (maximum 4,000 characters); summary sheet; and optional supporting documents. EU/equated applicants seeking pre-evaluation of a foreign qualification submit the final secondary-school diploma and its Declaration of Value or comparability certificate, bachelor's degree and its Declaration of Value or comparability/verification documents, transcript or Diploma Supplement, official course syllabi, motivation letter, recommendation letter and English certificate. For the subsequent Smart_Edu application, applicants graduating at or from another university upload an updated academic record or the prescribed self-certification plus a valid identity document.
